I don't really know how good Schwarzer is at the moment. He used to be quality, as did Sorensen and Cudicini, but I haven't seen him play much recently and they could be getting on a bit.

Seemed to be doing a good job with the Fulham defence last season though in any case.

Yeah he was immense last season - fair point about being hard to tell this campaign as he's spent a bit of time out injured and has only just gotten going.

As long as he can maintain his form for another 8-9 months I'll be happy.

Schwarzer is one of those goal-keepers that seems to get better with age IMO.

Anyone else picking Zola to be sacked next week if the Hammers lose to Arsenal at the weekend?

VDS is better than Howard was for a reason mentioned earlier: Command of area. Howard had no major command of the area however VDS has nailed it. He communicates excellently with the defence and manages them well. When Foster/Tomasz are in goal, I don't have as much faith for that reason alone - the defenders suddenly don't seem as well managed. I don't think Ben or Tomasz like to yell at Rio or Vidic, but they need to be able to do that without a second's thought, and with authority at the same time. Not sure that happens with Foster/Tomasz and don't think it happened with Howard, either. Certainly not as well as it happens with VDS, anyway. Reflexes are one thing, but a very intelligent brain capable of organising the defence well is arguably just as valuable, if not more so.

I'd say Lehmann was a pretty good keeper, certainly better than most mentioned in this thread recently enough, although near the end of his playing days for Arsenal he suffered - although that could just as well be pointed at the defence he worked behind, not sure...

EDIT: As for Almunia, I wouldn't go as far as to say he's crap. A basic PL keeper, although I wouldn't say he's a star player for a team of Arsenal's history.

I didn't see the Fulham-Roma game but it sounds like the Cottagers were unlucky - did anyone see it?

Everton completing an outstanding week for Merseyside.
There are three teams in Merseyside and I think you'll find one of them one their last game

28) [Upon being asked if he had received the apology that Sir Alex had announced he had sent to Wenger] "No. Perhaps he sent it by horse."
Pahahaha, that one is the best of the lot, what an absolute legend.

Though what you say is correct, it is a fairly moot point, as there is no way of establishing how many goals were conceded through the defenders not having faith in the goal keeper behind them.

For mine Lehmann was at least as good as Van Der Sar, I thought he was an exceptional keeper, though obviously prone to the odd moment of madness, but that just make me like him more, the guy was an absolute legend in my eyes.

I don't really have a lot of time for Almunia, but would say that he has improved a hell of a lot over the last few years. Still not a great keeper by any means, but solid enough, and I have faith in him to do a decent enough job. I wouldn't mind seeing him replaced with someone better, but I honestly can't think of anyone available who would do as good a job or a significantly better job who could be purchased cheaply enough to make good financial sense.
Should have signed Seb Frey 4 years ago.

Surprised nobody has mentioned the CL Final 2006 when talking about Lehmann tbh although that was the only thing he did wrong the entire tournament. Add to the fact we wouldn't have been there if it wasn't for his save frorm Riquelme's penalty in the semi final.

Personallyone of my favourite moments was his push/diving contest with Drogba  Typical Jens.

Some of the saves in that little montage still surprise me even now, every time I see the clip where Solskjaer fires the shot in I always think it's going to end up in the net, even though I know it won't. The saves against Real Madrid were my favourites as well, even if Raul's second one was probably going wide anyway.
