Will second your opinion, though I didn't notice much righteous thunder four years ago though. Exactly the same thing happened - play-off was suddenly decided to be seeded on a whim. Presumably no Anglo-speaking nations was involved so it was all ok. :dry:

Could still see Ireland beating France, but you figure in a two legged game France will probably keep it tight and pinch goals. Mind they were pretty awful away from home in their group games.

Can see Ireland losing on away goals. 0-0 draw in Paris and 2-2 in Dublin.

Then Portugal, Ukraine and Russia for the other spots.

Ireland will perform against France. They generally cope well against the big names.

The team's they'd flop against would be Ukraine, Greece, Russia. Better teams, but not the best teams. Or Iran and Belgium. I give them a decent chance against France. Their actual team doesn't match up to the awe their name inspires.

Yeah, I agree with the point you're making. My Dad is Irish so, like Brumby, I like to see Ireland do well.

Just as an aside, I thought you were a little harsh on Russia. Really rate them as a side myself.

Wasn't really referring to Brumby, more the international media - particularly British - listening and reporting to Trapattoni's claims. Not sure you'd see that if RoI wasn't involved.

Besides, if they had changed the rules, you would see an enormous ****storm from France, Russia & Portugal. They could quite rightly claim that "this wasn't the way we did it four years ago". (To delay the decision on the matter is stupid, agree, but nobody picked up on that 18 months ago...)

Does anyone know where you might be able to watch the Ireland and France WC qualifier in Sydney on Sunday and Thursday morning. I rang a couple Irish pubs and both said they not opening. Since when do Irish start drinking after 7am. What is the world is coming to.
