OH btw there is no way james hopes should be in the 20/20 team, his case is less compelling than nathan brakken and he was dropped.
There is a number of players that shouldn't be in our T20 side but our selectors will continue to pick them.

Indeed, beginning with the choice for captain.
Cricket is the most hierarchical game in the world - especially Australian cricket. That's essentially why Clarke got the captaincy. It would have thrown the natural order of things into chaos if someone who had not have 'done their time' got the captaincy - like White. I think this is why the selectors are so bad when it comes to T20. They only want to pick guys who have done their time - not a heap of specialists. Certainly they can tolerate one or two like Warner, but no more. It's this hierarchical way that is holding us back in T20.

On the hierarchy generally, it's like the ascension to the Throne - you have to get in line, be respectful of those ahead, say the right things and wait your turn. Listen to Tim Paine, Callum Ferguson get interviewed recently and you'll see what I mean. There is this constant talking up of those in front of you and how you're just humbled to be on tour and watch how the guys prepare.

Wasn't Gilchrist the Vice Captain of the One Day side when Ponting was given the captaincy? I vaugley remember it being a bit of a shock that Punter was given the job when everyone assumed it would be Gilly.

Yeah, but it's not like Lee was keeping a QLDer out. Fleming was on that tour and given he was a swing bowler it was a stupid selection not to see him play in the 5th test at least.
Well yea Fleming was a definate option to play by that 5th test indeed. But looking back at the 2001 year during the Mumbai test vs IND & the Natwest ODI series Fleming played -he was losing some of the zip in his bowling.

I would say in years between Ashes 01 to IND 03/04 when Lee was a weak link in the test attack, AUS could have really played MacGill more often.

Pretty sure the season before Ponting became the ODI captain he took over as vice captain in both forms.

Not sure.

I think if Gilly was passed over though, it was more to do with the theory that keepers shouldn't captain because they'll have too much on their plate.

I yearn for the days of the Test boys playing State cricket again.

They used to love it.

Full strength NSW v QLD games were rippers.

If Mick Klinger doesn't play today, I give up on Australian cricket.

Seriously, his exclusion today would just be the selectors trying to prove they were right when they ridiculously excluded him in Adelaide on Sunday.

His exclusion last Sunday, after nearly topping the FR stats last Summer, was one of the biggest cases of what I call 'funky think' in recent times.

Funky think is when people try to prove how smart they are by doing something totally left field - the obvious is not good enough for them.

It was introduced into Australian cricket by John Buchanan, we saw it at the Oval with the Nathan Hauritz omission, and now it's spread like a cancer to the domestic theatre.

Rant over.

The obvious isn't cool enough, I have to be left field and prove how cutting-edge I am.

Makes me mad.

I wouldn't mind seeing Smith given another chance, Klinger can come in for Borgas. congrats to Walter, hes making quite the rise through injuries.

haha, love HJ's rants. Burgey-esque.

Klinger has to play, surely. Really don't think Smith is suited to OD cricket, as I said before Sunday's match. Hits the ball quite well but, much like Mick Slater, doesn't really hit over the top or look to just push the ball around. Would feel far more comfortable seeing Cosgrove pinch-hitting opening with a stable partner like Massive instead of trying to hit every ball out of the park at 3. Klinger to provide leadership at 3.

Dunno why the selectors felt the need to shake things up after a thumping SS win.

If Klinger got dropped from the T20 I would understand, I felt that his form in the longer game suffered after he played in the shortest form, but yeah he should definitely be playing, the team should be batting around him.

I can't get to the game, having non sporting loving guests at my house, how ghey.

Redbacks batting first, Klinger in for Smith, I would of gone with Klinger in for Borgas. Dosen't matter..go the redbacks!

Couple of injuries for the Bulls, but the Redbacks have 3 at the moment aswell.
