Cricketer Of The Year
Amazing that the Hoggster's going from Yorkshire, seems a bit crazy. I wonder where he will end up - Hampshire?
He was fat and slow! That was as much the problem as anything. It's the impression given if birth-certificates are not checked when what has happened to Hoggard in the last 18 months happens to someone.
Which is why I have said again and again throughout this saga that there simply must be more to it. England and Yorkshire have both discarded Hoggard despite the fact that at the time he was still one of it not the best bowler available to them (albeit in both cases the best of a distinctly moderate bunch), AND despite the fact that he had once been enormously popular in the circles of both.
The only viable conclusion is that he has become seriously good at rubbing people up the wrong way.
It'll be interesting to see what happens, presuming the news of his unpopularity hasn't spread accross the whole county scene and thus no-one wants him, when he signs for whoever he goes to next.
I agree with you wrt Yorkshire. Just heard Hoggy on the radio saying that Tim Bresnan was leading their attack next year! Is that really true?......... yet despite being fat and slow (at least on the face of things) he was STILL better than most\all of the available alternatives!
People don't generally get dropped for no reason. There is no viable playing reason why Hoggard should've been axed from the picture for either England or Yorkshire, so the only logical outcome is that there've been off-field issues.
Quite possibly. Although money could certainly also be the issue, as could some underlying fitness reason that means Yorkshire don't want to give a 3-year contract. So if you agree with me then clearly that wasn't the only problem. All signs point to some sort of issues of character.

Nice spinning from Yorkshire. Goodness only knows what the whole truth of this is.The chief exec was on tv earlier saying that Hoggy didn't even bother to turn up to the meeting scheduled to discuss his future. Apparently he also turned down a contract earlier in the season because he wanted more money.
Interesting, and perhaps the first hint of insight into the whole Hoggard-repeated-rejection sagas. The chief exec was on tv earlier saying that Hoggy didn't even bother to turn up to the meeting scheduled to discuss his future. Apparently he also turned down a contract earlier in the season because he wanted more money.

What is the logic of throwing around illinformed opinion that virtually libels a guy?Which is why I have said again and again throughout this saga that there simply must be more to it.
As I say - in some respects said policy makes sense, but it flies in the face of some recent dealings, with the likes of Kruis and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan. And also the fact that Gough was re-engaged after leaving. What is the logic of throwing around illinformed opinion that virtually libels a guy?
Anyone that has half an insight knows that this is typical of Yorkshire and is purely a financial, control and age issue.
Quite simply Yorkshire dont like paying for players (bowlers especially) once they reach an age where they require long term big contracts
Yorkshire believe (rightly or wrongly) that they have a long production line of talent that can cheaply plug in the gaps until they themselves get too expensive and the cycle comes full circle.
We see it with Hoggard, we saw it with Gough and we saw it with Sidebottom and Silverwood. All international seam bowlers that Yorkshire would rather release and replace with youngsters than pay longterm big contracts.
Yorkshire CCC is tight with its purse strings and still operates slightly different to other counties with an air of arrogance and importance (both a good thing and a hinderance). No player is sacred (unless you were called Boycott).
The new rules may also have played a role but the traditional reasons are fundamental as to why this happened.
Noone should be suprised by this. This is how Yorkshire do business. The Academy is key (though not as strong as previously IMO) as is the belief that any player can be replaced for a cheaper one. Yorkshire dont like paying big long term contracts for players and then seeing their talented Academy players (that they invested in) move on to other Counties due to lack of opportunities. It is not an ideal business model but it is how they work.
As long as Yorkshire keeps producing far more talent that any other County then this may work but it is dangerous if the talent starts to dry up or the tightfistedness becomes even more part of the culture.
Haha, would be very funny to see MSP move to Durham purely from a CW POV. Think the reasons for that should be obvious.Monty Panesar has been linked with a move to Durham.
However that report only mentions the rumoured interest from Warwickshire, Sussex, Middlesex and Surrey.
