There'll be no points for picking draws, therefore whoever wins the first innings will be regarded as the winner for the tips.
Okay I go for Tassie then.

Filthy at QLD Cricket, surely bowling Simpson in the 50th over wasn't a smart move, I mean it's Chris Simpson he had no chance - the man with the golden touch Carseldine should have bowled.

McDermott better play in the four dayer and qld better pick the best 6 batsman and 4 best bowlers, very unlikely tbh.

Exciting start to the season created by two poor batting lineups.

Noffke again proving why he is near on the most valuable domestic cricketer in Australia. Such a brilliant performance, he may have to dig that Western Australian lineup out of many more situations this season.

Can't see why we took the decision last year that Noffke would have no place in our FR Cup team.

Anyway, another non-con from our illustrious skipper. How does he keep getting away with it!

Also can't believe Goffers MacGoffin can't get a start for the WA team.

Come home Goffers, we'll have ya!

Those who watched the game on Fox today what were your impressions of McDermott jnr?

I was mighty impressed by him, bowled very good lines and consistently got the ball to do just a little bit either way. Looks like if he continues to develop at this rate and ads an extra yard (say 10kph) to his bowling then he'll be quite a handful in 3 or 4 years time.

Noffers is a champion, legend and the only way that QLD will pick their best 6/4 is if they drop Simpson - not gonna happen.

There is a d dawson who is a keeper batsmen playing for uni NSW,is that the same d dawson that played for tassie last year.
Wonder why the scores so low the pitch,or the fact new balls from each end.
Interested how this new rule will effect the games in the future.
I gather no replacment ball at the 35 over mark.

I can see the two new balls resulting in a lot of low scoring games. To be brutally honest, there aren't a lot of quality domestic batsmen in Australia. It could have a big effect on games.

I don't claim to know much about domestic cricket in Australia, but I can't understand why Queensland wouldn't want Noffke in their one-day and T20 teams. I thought he was a quality all-rounder.

Also, I was reading an interview with the coach and I was a bit bemused, because he said about Simpson "It's refreshing to have someone who wants to do what he has to do (for his team) rather than having other agendas like wanting to play for Australia." I don't know if that's a side-swipe at players like Noffke and Watson, but it seems a bit of an odd thing to say.

Indeed.

At present, there's a real dearth of young bulls smashing down the door with 1 000+ run Summers.

The thing I loved about the 1990's was the number of young punks smashing the door to the Australian team of its hinges - Slater, Hayden, Martyn, Langer.

Those punks were absolutely ravenous.

I think what the sides are lacking compared to 10 years ago are your late 20's batsman like Bevan, Lehmann, Cox, Siddons, Barsby, Nobes etc... Guys that were probably not far away but despite how many runs they scored they just wouldn't get in, there's a lot of young players going around but they need time.

Maybe it's because Chris Simpson is that far away from playing for Australia he'd be right to be concentrating on the job he has, because tbf he's lucky to even be playing 1st grade cricket.

The lack of quality batsman is definitely a problem.

I'll be keeping an eye on the batsman the bowlers with the best averages get out this year because I'm guessing quite a few bowlers will be averaging say 24 in the shield.

The Vics and NSW both have fantastic batting line ups it must be said.

It's not the only unusual comment I've heard from QLD this year. The one about the batsman needing to perform well because if they don't they can't pick Dan Doran was fairly odd too.

Barsby also said that none of the batsman are the type to have 1000 run seasons.
