Interesting. Fielders have right of way, so it's up to Matthews to move around Onions. But you have to question what the hell Onions was doing running straight into him with someone already backing up.

Yes, absolutely, a top gesture from Strauss there, but it would be nice to see that same common sense applied to his captaincy and to bring Jimmy back on RIGHT NOW!

Edit::laugh: typical, wright goes and gets a wicket. Would actually be quite optimistic about England chasing 190-200ish, as our batsmen, especially Strauss, tend to be good against the swinging ball.

Good gesture by Strauss - considering that he'd probably have been run out by a long way even if he hadn't collided with Onions. Much better to see than the Collingwood/Elliott incident though.

Perfectly understandable though - the ICC have caused the problems with their demands from broadcasters so nobody is covering it, they're not obliged to.

WRT the Mathews 'run out', I think both the batsman and Strauss did the right thing in the end, but IMO Mathews would probably have been run out anyway, it was a terrible second run. So it might have been in his interests to run into Onions. Not suggesting that he did it deliberately, but it could have been a slice of good fortune if he had gone on to capitalise on it.

Which makes it sound a lot like the Elliott / Collingwood affair, when Elliott changed direction in order to collide with the bowler, and would have been run out by miles either way.
