That was in The Way it was, I take it? I thought I'd read his story recently.

And in today's game, I wonder how many Trott is going to make after being dropped on 0.

As by chance there's a Rochdale born leggie in action tonight it would be entirely appropriate for Scuffers to get a few wickets tonight

Richard Logan, another hack bowler Surrey given a trial to.

Had more fast bowlers playing for them in the last two years than I have had hot dinners.

Come on Warks, get another 25 and put us out of our misery.

Surrey eh ... just laughably dire. Been car-crash watching this season. Six wins in all matches, lest we forget.

Hmm, Tresco been made Somerset captain, good I guess.

Mind you if we keep playing on a pitch where Daryl ****ing Mitchell can score 298, then I don't really see it making much difference8-)

Been a bit of a joke that Taunton track again this year. If Tres has any hopes for his side to win the CC then they need to liven the pitch up somehow, starting with a huge digger!

Went to the Rose Bowl today for the afternoon but managed to miss all the wickets, arived just after Adams was out and left just before Benham was out. Very solid performance from Benham and Pothas, really pleased for Benham a much needed century for him (think it was his first in the county championship) would probably not have been in the side had Luke Wright not got injured in the nets. Shame that I did not see a bit more of Borthwick, struggled in the spell I saw, lost his length and got a bit of punishment but three wickets is a good effort on debut. Hope we can get to 350 tomorow, game is safe though.

Sussex are toast. A pretty poor day on the cricketing front, but as I'm sure fred will understand I'm not finding it difficult to keep it in perspective.

I predict the only toasting done in Sussex come the end of next week will be of their saviour, Pushy ..................

... and before you mock don't forget it was Gypsy Rose Fertang who correctly foresaw Mr Prior' s faultless summer behind the stumps

Come on Essex... Northants effectively 131/5. I really really don't want South Africa over-35's to be promoted. Would much rather see Cook, Bopara, Foster, Napier playing division 1 cricket next season.

100 for Hamilton-Brown, but Goodwin has gone. What's the story here, do Sussex need to win to stay up now? Going to be hard but not out of the question if they can eke out a lead.

Not sure of the maths of the run-in but I think that we're 4 points behind with one game to go after this. Sussex 30 odd behind with 5 wickets in hand. Could be an intersting finish if these two plus smith and pushy can get a quick lead of 100 or more.

I'm following this game from my wife's bedside in the maternity ward!

A win would be a big help, if it's a draw they'll need to get a better result than Yorkshire in the final round of matches. A long shot would be both Yorkshire and Sussex overtaking Hampshire - Sussex would need to score two more bonus points than Hampshire in the process of beating them (that equation may change).

Nice.

It'll be a interesting situation next week if the games are drawn.

Sussex could benefit from a tactical declaration from Hampshire - who could ensure Sussex don't get the extra bonus points to overtake them, so Hampshire survive but would probably hand a nice advantage to their opponents. For instance if Sussex bat first and get bowled out for under 350, Hampshire could just declare at 5 down regardless of the score and be certain of staying up.

Edit: Actually I think Hampshire dropped a bowling bonus point on Sussex, so they'd declare at 2 down instead.

Needing another 115 with 10 wickets intact. Cook motoring nicely, which is as it should be. Is this Day 4? They'll have to go a bit to win though.

Almost certainly will be a draw I think, can't see Yorkshire dangling a carrot from their position. Let us know how things go with Mrs Z, won't you. My daughter was born on the last day of the season 18 years ago.
