Clarke 1 from 12, are they planning any 3 match series after this ODI series or what?
Kieswetter looks good at the crease and looks a proper batsman. Mustard's always looked like a mindless slogger whenever I've seen him, and only made runs for England on the flattest of surfaces on a tiny ground. I rate Kieswetter incredible highly and have been incredibly impressed whenver I've seen him bat, and his record is notably better than Mustard's as well. Mustard averaging 28.64, Kieswetter averaging 39.74 and Craig has more hundreds in 60 less matches. Taunton or not, that's a miles better record. As for Tim Ambrose, it's debatable. Their batting is very even, and I'd give the edge on keeping to Ambrose, so that's why I'd take him ahead of Mustard.
That's a fair enough point Scaly (great Dwarf reference BTW). However, when we also have Davies who is undoubtedly a superior one-day batsmen and probably a better keeper you'd have to say that Mustard shouldn't really be in the considerations of the England selectors right now. I also suspect that Davies would be a lot better equipped than Mustard to cope with non-flat pitches and score runs on those as well.Mustard's record over the last 2-3 seasons is pretty good, he's certainly an infinitely better option than Matt Prior who along with Swann has the batting to do well but just seems to brain dead when it comes to ODI batting.
2 good seasons out of 9 shows how good he is for me. Averaged 49 in 2007 and 43 this season but in 2008 he only averaged 24; and looked very unimpressive and did very little in his time in an England shirt, only cashing in on a flat deck on a small ground. Kieswetter's had 1 below average season, his first, and since then he's been excellent. Averaged 41 in 2008 and 53.66 this season. Kieswetter's only bad season, where he averaged 27, is only surpassed by Mustard in 2 of his 9 seasons. There is no way I'd consider taking Mustard ahead of Kieswetter, but I guess I'm not from the North East..........You do realise what 'recent' means don't you?
Mustard's 26 now and he debuted for Durham 9 years ago in List A, using his career stats is a little unfair to say the least.
Mustard averages about 3.5 runs less than Kieswetter over the past 3 years and the Taunton road factor can cover most of that.2 good seasons out of 9 shows how good he is for me. I'm pretty certain my 16yr old cousin could do exactly what collingwood is now, 60mph boringness.Collingwood is bowling decently at 60mph but can bowl at 80mph. So why doesn't he mix it up more? I'd have thought the odd quicker one could be useful
