Cesc and Merida were both very dodgy but the other guys we did pay fees for. Especially Vela who we payed an enormous amount for (a 16 year old especially). Aliadiere came straight from the Clairefontaine academy so I'm not sure what the legality is there.
Tbh in his last season he did get a run of games that were effectively make or break, he came through them fine, without any great deal of success, and has been fit ever since joining Boro, also without scoring many goals, though you do wonder how he would have done if he didn't suffer one of his long term injuries quite so early on. Remember how he out of the blue started up fron at Anfield one day, seemed like a crazy decision, but turned out quite well after Pires swerved the ball into the top corner from the edge of the area, is pretty much the only first team memory I have of the young lad tbh. Is married to Leilani apparently, so fair play to him.
Merida so dodgy a fine had to be paid for the situation causing him to leave Barca.
