You saying that Watson, or Clarke, will bat three when Ponting retires?Watto shouldn't bat at 6, it's not a position that suits him. Would have him at 4 if Hussey goes, but we all know the Chosen One will move to 4 if Hussey goes so that leaves #5. He'll bat 3 when Ponting retires, of that I'm sure.
Much like Ponting, reckon the selectors will bat Watto at 6 just to keep him in the side then slot him up to 3 when the time comes. I actually think that 6 is too low for Watson. 4 seems ideal atm. Maybe Watto at 4 and Hussey back down to 6 where he had most of his success. See if Hussey's form returns with change in position.Much like Ponting, reckon the selectors will bat Watto at 6 just to keep him in the side then slot him up to 3 when the time comes. Batting 4 in the Aussie side seems to be a bit of a seniority thing if comments by Mark Waugh and Damien Martyn are any indication. Agree that Watto suits batting higher than 6 but so did Ponting. And barring a fairly dramatic loss of form, 4 seems destined to be Clarke's for as long as he wants it once Huss moves (if they're desperate to keep huss, I don't think it's any disgrace for him to move to 5 for now). 6 seems to be the apprentice spot and if I was Watto and someone said to me, "Look you can bat 6 for now and, if you do well, can bat higher once Ponting goes or you can wait until the spot you want becomes available." well, geez, it's a no-brainer which way he'd go, surely.I actually think that 6 is too low for Watson. 4 seems ideal atm. It wouldn't surprise me if he shuffled down in ODIs, but I think he'll bat three in Tests until he calls it quits.Anyone think Ponting will begin to bat lower down the order, or will he stay at three until he retires?
Who knows what he will do but I will be very disappointed if he moved down. He is by far the best man for the job.Anyone think Ponting will begin to bat lower down the order, or will he stay at three until he retires?

With all of Watson's fitness issues, his only chance of opening will be if he gives up bowling. Else he will become another Flintoffesque case with injury limiting him to IPLsIf Hussey goes, no doubt Clarke will take No.4 position. Watson will either continue opening or get shunted to No.5 or 6 with North.
