I dont think hiring some unkown spinner to bowl like Murali is going to help you survive against the real deal. To me that shows lack of confidence in self because no other team has ever tried so hard to show to the world that they are worried.

IF it works and they keep the spinners at bay, Moles and Co will be made to look brilliant.
Didn't England make a bowling machine specifically to counter Warne and Murali?

Yea they did and called it merlin as well.
I remember the broadcasters showed the English batsmen practicing it in 06 in the middle of SL test tour to England. Murali ended up getting 8 wickets in an innings in the 3rd test and won SL the test and drawing the series.
3rd test 06
Epic phail

Also, I am not that concerned about the weather forecast. It always shows thunderstorms in SL.Besides Galle is right next to the ocean, rain usually passes by quickly due to the wind.

Also had no idea on ITSTL, so googled it... and 2 of the 4 top links were Richard posts here on Cricket Web

Is 'interesting to say the least'.

Will be interesting seeing how Murali and Mendis (assuming they both play) go this series, with Murali coming back from injury and Mendis recently dropped. Our lot are traditionally pretty abysmal against spin, but if M&M are sub par then that goes some way to leveling the playing field.

Probably shouldn't forget Herath either - will SL play all three spinners? What's the likely lineup?

Edit: Noticed Migara posted one a few pages back with M&M and no Herath.

Just got this emailed from the TAB

"Highest Opening Partnership 1st Innings - Correctly predict which opening partnership will score the most runs and you will cash in.

In the 2nd test between New Zealand and Australia last year, a $10 bet on New Zealand would have returned you $24.50.

Highest Batsman - Pick who you think will score the most runs in any nominated innings.

In the first Australia vs. BLACKCAPS Test in Brisbane last year, Ross Taylor was the top scorer for the BLACKCAPS in both innings. A $10 bet on him for both innings would have returned you $55.00 (1st innings) and $50.00 (2nd innings) respectively.

Next Man Out - For every partnership you'll be given the names of two batsman and the odds of them being the next to be dismissed. Correctly predict who will be the next to be dispatched and you will cash in.

In the 2nd Test between Australia and New Zealand last year, if you'd chosen McCullum over Vettori, a $10 bet would have returned you would have collected $18.50."

I plan to bet on the SL openers to outperform us in every inning. And I plan to bet large. I also plan to bet a lot on the next man out thing. I think I have a good knack for figuring out when a batsman is going to be dismissed. But I don't plan to bet too much on this option as luck is a huge factor.

I also want to comment on Oram. I am in favour of giving him another run now that he is healthy. I think he scored a healthy inning against England when we were last touring there and then I think he has been injured a heck of a lot.
I think that Franklin is a number 7 rather than a number 6 and he didn't bat with confidence against India. It wasn't too long ago that he was a test match number 9 so it was asking a lot of him to suddenly start batting at 6.

Based on the test squad that we have it is either Oram or Elliot and Oram has more experience. I do have bad memories of Oram looking all at sea against top class spin in a few innings but I am hoping his experience will see him through.

I don't know who I prefer to bat at 6 out of McCullum or Oram. I just don't think McCullum has ever figured out how to bat in test match cricket. He certainly has in ODIs - perhaps he should copy Sehwag and just play his shots we could afford to carry one batsman in our team who just goes for it.

This is only my third post but as I said in my first post I want our guys to play like their lives depend on it in this series. Other top countries are considering it a waste of their time to play tests against us so I at least want to see an honourable draw in this series out of our team to send a message internationally.

I stand by my comment that they are getting ridiculous. That's pretty much abbreviating a whole sentence, who the hell does that?!

And what's up with IMO - clearly it's your opinion, so why state the obvious?

Some people on here are about as bad as rugby players talking to the media after a game.

This interests me a lot. My club played against his before the SL-Pak Test series. He bowled quite a few overs, and all the batsmen thought he was rubbish. I played a few overs of him and agreed. I barely considered him a club standard bowler.

Then he went out and took 5-for or whatever in a Test against Pak, I couldn't believe it.

Is he actually good, or just had a lucky game?

He's not bad, particularly if the surface has anything in it for him. I dare say the deviation from the norm was the game you played in - sounds like he just had an old fashioned shocker.
