The purpose of this article is to have a look at Laker's approach in order to see just how accurate or otherwise his predictions were and then for the writer to try and project the game forward again, this time, less ambitiously, to 21 years hence.

the two most important developments he missed out are these

limited overs cricket (50 overs as well as 20 overs) gaining in popularity
the power shift from england to india in running the global game

a lot of other developments (ex. higher scoring rate, shorter boundaries, less tests) are all side effects of these two major phenomena
