Interesting that Ryder is batting at number 4 today. Hope its a sign that the selectors have seen the light, but I doubt it.

More likely they want him to get a good score under his belt before the first test, and since Taylor spent some time in the middle in the last game, batting Ryder ahead of him was a good option.

Nice to see these two putting a partnership together though...go Gup!!!

Ryder at 4 with Taylor at 5? Do you think it makes much of a difference? Though wouldn't agree with Taylor at 3 if that's what you were saying - too exposed early on.

Great that Guptill has a few runs today, as everyone else bar him and McIntosh had a fair amount of batting practice in the last game.

Looks like Taylor was batting four and cricinfo mixed them up.

And also Taylor should be batting four.

Looks as though Ryder isn't even playing. Cricinfo says Cumming was in at 5 and got out for 2, all wickets LBW so far.

Lol, yeah noticed that Ryder suddenly turned into Taylor according to Cricinfo

It seems strange to me that NZ wouldnt play Ryder in this game, since he's a certainty for the first test, I would have though they'd want to give all the certainties as much game time as possible.

Think they need to decide who to bat out of McIntosh Guptill and Cumming.

Only Guppy seems locked in now.

Incredibly poor from NZ here, Guptill and Taylor the only ones making contributions so far and both did not go on.

172/7, 6 LBW's!

Would prefer to see how the Lankans go before I'm really going to gauge this performance. Hard to judge how well we are doing by a scorecard especially in the sub continent. Could be a 600 pitch or a 200 pitch. Ya never know.

Yeah, you are right. Still, would have been nice for Guppy and Taylor to go on once they got in.

I hope OB goes well with the ball and Marto gets hammered.

Vettori
Patel
Tuffey
O'Brien

Killer bowling lineup!

LBW s to quicks and spinners doesnt boad well for techinque or umpires one of the two.

Prassana is a very good prospect same club as Mendis, but a regular leg spinner.

Jesus, when was the last time the top 5 bats were all out lbw?

Great to see Guptill in the runs, BUT the boys are going to have to convert these starts in the series if we are to have a sniff.

Can you honestly say you think our batsmen will convert starts against the likes of Murali, Mendis and Malinga?

I may be cynical, but I don't see it happening.

I have more faith in our team than they probably warrant

EDIT: Suppose that means they'll go with a Tuffey/O'Brien attack in order to eke out every possible run

Malinga probably won't play
Murali is waning
Mendis still needs to be proven
