There are no real outstanding teams this year, are there? It's shades of 2005 and 2001 really. Like, the last couple of years, Manly and Storm have been so far out in front, it was funny. Then the Roosters a few years before that. This year, it doesn't feel like anybody deserves to win the comp. St George have been consistently good, rather than outstanding.

IMO thats because the top 4 sides have all built their game around defence. They have been able to score points yes but they are winning because in the tough matches they are keeping the opposition to low scores. In the past few years as you mentioned teams like Manly, Storm and Roosters have dominated but thats been on the back of flashy play.

I agree with you, though in 2001 Parra broke every record in the book - most tries scored, most points scored, I think they had the biggest ever points differential as well on for and against. In one of the last games of the year they made a replacement and played for 20 minutes with 12 men to practice it iin case they needed to in the finals - they won by 30 odd.

They were amazing that year. Then they set the record for the most **** house performance in the first half of a GF too. ****s.

Weren't they just? Phenomenal performances.

Crucial moment in that whole game though, was at 18-0. Parra just getting some momentum back and Ryan crashes over, only to have Steve Simpson hold him up over the line. Newcastle scored not long after and that was all she wrote.

Are you kidding? The 2002-2005 Roosters FLASHY?!

We played in the trenches football the whole time, not sure what you were smoking. Ruck it up through Morley, Catic, Cayles for four tackles, then Fittler kicked for the corner and we hammered the **** out of them on defence. Penrith were the flashy side back then.

Was a brilliant one-on-one tackle that.
