Fred was buggered tho, wasn't he? Trott should've come in for him with maybe Harmy for Broad, if the selectors were minded to play him. Some selection errors from me. Bopara selected in the 4th Test, Flintoff not selected, Broad at 7
Basd on what we saw at Edgbaston, there was NO WAY Frad should've been selected for Headingley as he was basically a passenger for most of the 3rd testI'm definitely being a bit one-eyed WRT Fred, but he apparently said he felt as good as he had done in the previous two matches, so meh. But yeah, once he was gone, harmy in was a disaster.
I really thought Harmison playing was a good idea (though instead of Broad). And then he reminded me why I'd got so fed up with him last time.Maybe, maybe. Meh, even if they did the right thing not picking Flintoff, it should have been a batsman to replace him, and if they were going to go with a bowler, should have been Sidebottom. They really ****ed up.
I'm thinking if Sky had shown highlights of some cricket (any cricket) from the past three years during the Edgbaston washout instead of harking back to 2005, maybe more people would have realised he's crap.I really thought Harmison playing was a good idea (though instead of Broad). Been happening for the last 18 months, and is likely to continue to happen. Harmison more than almost anyone gets better in the minds of those with short memories when he's out of the side.I really thought Harmison playing was a good idea (though instead of Broad). And harking back to highlights of 2005, what's more, which fail to show how Harmison spent most of the last four Tests being ignored because he was the only bowler who released the valve on the Australian batsmen.I'm thinking if Sky had shown highlights of some cricket (any cricket) from the past three years during the Edgbaston washout instead of harking back to 2005, maybe more people would have realised he's crap.
Rashid is every bit as much of a no-no as Panesar. Picking two spinners at The Oval would be plain insanity, there's almost never anything much in the pitch there for spinners. We just have to hope and pray there's something in it for seam and we don't get the rank road that there's always a high prospect of.England side for the next game should be this
Strauss
Cook
Key
Trott
Prior
Collingwood
Flintoff
Broad
Swann
Rashid/Onions
Anderson
If they want 2 spinners it should be Rashid and Swann, monty Panesar should never play international cricket again, hes completely useless with the bat and in the field, and not far from completely useless with the ball unless the pitch is spinning and bouncing, which any spinner would be dangerous on.
Bringing Trott in could be seen as a gamble, but hes averaging 99 in first class cricket this year, and even if he does fail, Bopara wont get past 20 in either innings anyway so its not a loss if he doesn't fire.
I'd drop Collingwood to 6 too because hes clearly not firing at 5 and Prior has looked our 2nd best batsman all series, but always ends up having to throw it away because hes left with the tail, so this gives him longer at the crease.
Often some kind of pace and carry tbf. The ball doesn't seam or take off from a length but at least edges don't invariably fall short.Rashid is every bit as much of a no-no as Panesar. yeah but by play Rashid i meant that if we do play 2 spinners it has to be Swann and Rashid, not that we should play 2 spinners. Personally i think the groundsman should be preparing a pitch that offers a lot for the bowlers, as i'd rather lose the series 2-1 trying to win it than see a 600-6 declared, 600-4 declared game over sort of game that the oval produces that leaves us with no chance.Rashid is every bit as much of a no-no as Panesar. It just has to be the sort of pitch where Australia have no chance at all of making more than 350 or so, for mine. Has to be the sort of pitch that makes a result over five days absolutely as close to certain as possible.Often some kind of pace and carry tbf. The ball doesn't seam or take off from a length but at least edges don't invariably fall short.
I was just saying that we should under no circumstances remotely consider playing two spinners. Even if the deck turns square.yeah but by play Rashid i meant that if we do play 2 spinners it has to be Swann and Rashid, not that we should play 2 spinners.
And that's why it needs to be greened up, surely, rather than dried out to rely on finger spinners late in the game. If you're waiting for days 4 and 5, it will be too late if Australia have batted for all of days 1 and 2.It just has to be the sort of pitch where Australia have no chance at all of making more than 350 or so, for mine. Maybe, but Green pitch = Stuart Clark plays over Hauritz = Australia win anyway! And that's why it needs to be greened up, surely, rather than dried out to rely on finger spinners late in the game.
