*Official* Fourth Test at Headingley

I have to say I have started to change my tune of Clarke in this series. I knew he was a good batsman, but I thought he was bit of a bottler and getting out when Australia needed him to stay in there (ie getting out just before stumps), but he has hung in there and played some big knocks when it was needed for him to step up.

Onions should be looking at a nice central contract sometime soon. Will be in the team for some time to come I reckon.
Yup. I still think the key play at Edgy was when Hussey somehow survived against Onions towards the end of Day 4. Had he gone, as he really should, then we'd have had a good chance. Here, he's comprehensively outbowled far more experienced team-mates.

Everyone has it all wrong:sleep:

The English captain does not want to get the Aussies out!

He wants them to stay in as long as possible, maybe even until tea on day three, this will give England a better chance of drawing the match. If he bowled them out for 200, the game may be over by tomorrow.

What a captain:ph34r:

Mitch for a 50.
Yes, that too. Not going to be pretty - unless you are Australian, of course.

Wonder if Ponting will declare late this evening. Dont think he will tbh. Plenty of time left in the test.

I don't really think England were ever going to force a result in that game. In the context of Australia's horrid performances there and at Lord's, and the growing pessimism of Aussie fans, a near-impossible task turned into a 50-50 call in a lot of people's minds.

When Australia did save the game comfortably it seemed to give them a lift.

Just as an aside, I hope the Wallabies win tonight. Dont know why they left Phil Waugh out of the squad though.

As much as you could blame the bowlers, most of the responsibility lies with the batsmen and the captain. England have been totally rudderless. Anderson has been plain awful. Harmison seems to have been told to bang every ball in halfway, with mostly bad results. Broad's been told to bowl miles outside. Onions hasn't bowled enough and neither has Swann.

Strauss has given up this game a long time ago, his captaincy seems to go through the motions without actually reacting to the game situation, totally lacking in any instinct or creativity and he's an uninspiring leader. He just lets teams race away - he's got 5 bowlers but he's too thick to use them properly. The finger spinner is the obvious option when someone is blitzing the seamers, but he just feeds the batsmen more of the same. It happened in Cardiff on the second day and it's happened here.

Mo Matthews says Australia will win the series. Without Freddie, England lack leadership and don't have a clue, questioned Strauss's captaincy by leaving Swann and Onions out of the attack for so long. He asked what is going on?

While we're on lunch, here are some of my photos from yesterday. I'm not much of a photographer so a lot of my action shots are pretty mundane tbh.

Never seen this ad before, Pizzorno will love it

Ravi hit one, amazing!

Jimmeh getting out

If I wasn't a biased, one-eyed moron I'd have enjoyed the partnership between chimp and Watto. They were brilliant.

Strauss is a joke of a captain, granted. But the bowlers have to - absolutely, have to - take a lot of the blame. I mean, come on. Every bowler yesterday was moving the ball in the air quite a distance. There was a lot there for the bowlers. Instead of bowling it full - which any newb could have told you - they kept pitching it short. Everybody and their grandmother knows Ponting will destroy anything that is short; are you guys seriously suggesting that is what Strauss was actually aiming for?

Pizzorno adores that sign!

Putting them in their place good and proper that; they may be hammering us but they're still crims.

Yeah, bowlers have been pretty poor but you have to feel sorry for them only having 102 to bowl at

As Beefy said, tht's nothing to defend but let's be serious, Eng have been absolutely friggin' woeful and the only surprise is that it's taken this long to show

After all, Jimmy, Harmy and Broad have done nothing more than the bowl the way they have for most of their careers

Truly shocking performance

Strauss should resign as skipper honestly, off the back of this. Disasterous performance with the ball - worse than the batting. How did Swann and Onions take so long to get a bowl? Why is no-one telling Harmison to bowl a proper length, or Broad a proper line? That was in all seriousness the worst session of captaincy by a fielding skipper I can recall. Don't buy that it's the bowlers fault - the fields set have suggested they are bowling what the skipper wants - or that no one knows what they are meant to be bowling.
