*Official* Second Test at Lords

Yeah. But I love seeing Hobbs and Sutcliffe leading the way.

88 average and 15 hundred partnerships and 10 50 partnerships from 38 innings. A solid start from 2 out of 3 innings. Fantastic!
I only ignored them purely because their dominance isn't in any way a surprise. :) Absolutely in a class of their own as the greatest opening partnership ever.

At least the openers are playing attacking cricket. Nothing worse than defensive cricket on flat pitches.

So basically you're saying Johnson can only perform on pitches that suit him? Sign of a real world class bowler that.
Not many bowlers have had success on flat and slow wickets, as you said before, this pitch is comparable to a subcontient wicket for the pacemen.

Why is he looking 10x worse than any of the bowlers who bowled in S.A with him though?
Mitchell Johnson was always like this though. It's basically why no one liked him in the first place and everybody seemingly jumped on his bandwagon after he took 8fer against South Africa. Even when he was having success against South Africa, he took allot of tap, but inbetween that had patches of brilliance where he bowled some unplayable delieveries.

Johnson getting monkeyed (spanked that is)...Time for a totally different change...Mike Hussey I say, 2 overs 1 wicket, 9 runs.

Johnson will come good after lunch, just needs his Missus to Kweek him up a bit, maybe he should text his mother as well.

Wonder how many runs Johnson will concede before he bowls that one wicket-taking delivery that will send the Aussies on this forum into a frenzy.
What was his name, the Australian who shot your dog? If we can find him and bring him to justice then perhaps we can help alleviate your dislike of the whole country.

Yeah, but he can do that, cant he? Its one of the annoying things about Johnson. Follow up some crap with a sudden peach or two. Like the cricketing version of the Ali 'rope a dope' strategy - although I may be stretching that analogy a little!

I do wonder whether there's any mental issues with Johnson... the pressure that's on him, perhaps, and also the family issues which are surely distracting to some extent.

Finished work at 12:00, good to hear the right team has been picked (whether it turns-out good enough may be unlikely, but you can only pick the best team) and that a good start has been made. Two tosses won to start the series is two not-underdue bits of luck.

So someone like Virenda Sehwag "can't bat to save there life" then, he struggles hugely on green tops. Or Chris Gayle? Graeme Smith is technically pretty average, and struggles against swing. What about him?
Smith has struggled against a good inswing bowler. With the exception of that hes scored runs against the best attacks on some of the most bowler friendly wickets. Sehwag is arguably the best opener in world cricket at the moment and it really would be insulting to say that he couldnt score runs on a green top, given that he has done so in the past.

Like I said, with Cook any pace bowler who can get anything out of any wicket has caused him problems lately. Perhaps given his age he might improve over time, but there isnt much doubt in my mind at the moment that hes not a good enough test match player ATM. Hes there based on potential and the fact that England have invested over 3 years in him.

Speaking of self-serving bias, we could ask where did the series go between this one and the last one in England?

It really is amazing how Ponting, now matter how much Johnson is getting spanked, will keep sending him in.

 Honestly mate, if you lived here you'd swear that 2005 was the last time these two sides played each other. It's embarrassing.
