***Official*** English Domestic Season 2009

Hi guys, i'm new to the site but i'd just like to ask what your thoughts on James Hildreth are? He has had an excellent season this year, finally realizing his vast potential.

His first class average is 40.77, which is unspectacular. But he is a fantastic strokeplayer, so good infact that Justin Langer called him "an extraordinary talent". He is already an accompilshed limited overs player. An average of 29.29 is good going for the 40 over game, and whilst his strike rate isn't readily avaliable - the smart money is it being mid 80's. In the T/20 format he averages nearly 20, with an excellent strike rate of 136.5.

His 303* to start the year against Warwickshire was sublime, however it looked for awhile like again he was going to waste his vast potential. However this season he is averaging a fantastic 60.66, with two tons and 3 fiftys in his 13 innings so far this season. If he can break the 1300 mark for the season, it will be an excellent one for him.

So my question to you, is surely Hildreth is worth a shout for an England call up sometime soon?

England Lions, IMO, is ridiculous in the fact that the team is neigh on the same each time it is selected. Surely many players in good nick should get a chance to impress?
Case in point:
Stephen Moore has had a poor year, yet he is recalled.

Hildreth would be an ideal ODI replacement for Shar or Strauss in the middle order. England should take a look.

No

Half his OD runs this year came in one innings, on a road at Taunton, against Scotland...outside of this he averages around 20 in OD cricket this year...no thanks.

His FC season is also heavily skewed by one innings. The guy averages barely 40, playing half his games at Taunton (FWIW he averages 34 away from home). Needs to show he can do it away form Taunton...this year he averages 132 at home and 18.6 away from home. Long way from the side at the moment

A good point, however wouldn't it be safe to assume most batsmen perform better at home than they do away?

Granted, JH clearly has an issue to resolve away from home before he is given a shot. I do feel he has the ability though. To me there is no doubting that.

Yet i feel my issue with the Lions still stands.

Stephen Moore averages 28 in FC cricket this season. Yet low and behold he is opening for the Lions.

Both Durham and Notts playing 13-a-side. Broad, Harmison, Onions and Swann all named in the teams. Not sure if that's normal nowadays. Still looks wrong to me.

Anyway, Fred still heading me in CW's fantasy cricket. Our League is in 35th overall in the leagues, have no idea if that's good, bad or indifferent:unsure:

Was that from cricinfo? I thought it was odd and then thought they'd simply got it wrong. Checking the scorecard recently, Broad & Swann still ahven't bowled. Plus the game's described as being 4 days starting today, so I think the 13-a-side bit is an error.

Elsewhere, Chris Jordan has actually turned in a useful performance with the ball. :-O

My guess is that Cricinfo have needed to list the extra men in case they are released from the Test squad and back to the county.match. It's possibly a live-scoring bug/"design feature".

I'd be interested to know why Stewart Walters, who many of us believe shouldn't even be in the team, is captaining Surrey at Guildford when experienced players such as Ramprakash, Afzaal and Batty are in the side against Essex. Really let them off the hook, 273-6 now having been 116-5. Former OU seamer Tim Linley's making his Championship debut at 27 and playing his first match since 2006.

Looks like rather less than a thrill a minute on Sky though, as Worcester struggle to reach 4 an over, against a Yorkshire side who look like they're playing in New Zealand's strip these days.

Turned over too late for Hoggy's spell, but 1/25 off 8 a useful return. Dunnot what pace he was bowling at tho.

Has Rana Naved been to Advanced Hair Studios, btw? Didn't he used to be bald?

EDIT: Yup, wasn't my imagination:

Trademark Durham batsmen ****ing it up at the end of the day, two set batsmen getting out to a nothing past-it bowler.

Mostly at 80mph with the odd ball down at 75mph (dunno if it was a slight slower ball) and the actual slower one down in the 60s.

Finally some runs being scored at New Road. 133 off 35 becomes 181 off 39 (including a hilarious attempt at a Dilshan from Chris Whelan)

Rana Naved has certainly detioriated since his international peak. He used to be genuinely sharp at around 87mph and now he trundles in at barely over 80mph - still got that classical action though.
