***Official*** English Domestic Season 2009

Good performance from Hampshire today, saving the game in rather more comfortable fashion than England managed yesterday. Still a bit of a dissapointing performance, especially first innings batting, really should have secured maximim bonus points, to get out for 264 was pretty pathetic. Lumb has got to get some more runs in the longer form of the game soon or he will have to be dropped.

Aargh not watching this, Mrs Z has got some crappy US teen soap opera on. How have Sussex played? Another Ed Joyce show, it seems?

Ward was at Surrey for almost all his career, but had a season or two at Sussex before retiring to the commentary box.

Well batted Hash, great innings. I didn't actually notice his batting half the time, just got on with it and knocked the ball around with the occasional 4 and a massive 6 off Beer. Then he just seemed to reach his 100 of 90 odd balls, amazing stuff. Didn't catch the end of the game, what happened?

From the Pakistan in Sri Lanka thread:

The ECB, in my opinion, would be wise to come to some sort of formal agreement with the PCB.

If England is to be Pakistan's "home" for playing international cricket for the forseeable future, then in my opinion it would be beneficial for both boards to try to come to an agreement with regards to allowing centrally contracted Pakistan players to play in the County Championship without restrictions.

The big danger for Pakistan is that they become uncompetitive due to English conditions being alien to them. A good, competitive Pakistan in Tests and ODIs will not only help keep the cricket flame burning in Pakistan, but also has the potential to be extremely lucrative to the ECB. There's a large Pakistani expat community, particularly in Leeds and Manchester, and the prospect of seeing a strong, competitive Pakistan take on the likes of India, Australia and South Africa in England would be a mouth watering prospect, both for the Pakistani descended community in England, but also for the "indigenous" English cricket lover as well. Grounds would be sold out, which benefits the counties staging Pakistan's "home" internationals financially, and Pakistan would be stronger for it.

Incidentally, I'm hoping that Cricket Scotland gets in on the act as well, there's a huge Pakistani community in Glasgow, and I'd love to see Titwood becoming one of Pakistan's "home" venues for ODIs played in Britain.
An idea with merit, or not?

Surely has EU links to secure a contract. He plays amatuer cricket in South Africa and if franchise cricketers can no longer get visas (de Wet, du Preez...), not sure how he could swing one. Justin Kemp just about fit the criteria.

I see Madsen's uncle is Henry Fotheringham, the former Transvaal opener of the Mean Machine era. With a name like Henry Richard Fotheringham, he has to be a Natalia of British stock...

From what I can gather, Madsen was playing sub-pro league cricket, starred with bat and ball and the rest is history.

Amla was the first Essex cricketer to score a hundred on debut in both first class and list a cricket. Any other cricketers done that?

Nope, the commentators said that he was the only one.

Good start at the Middlesex Warwickshire game, 2 overs played, both have been sandwiched inbetween lengthy rain stops.
