Cronk can easily cover the positions, it's not really any different to NSW having Wing on the bench.

Don't know about that.
For all that is wonderful about Brisbane, having a load of culture is one thing it does not have. Given that he has to play/train football for close to 10 months of the year there isn't much time there to have a 'real' holiday. I can understand his wish to see the world while he still is young and get away from Brisbane for a while. If I had the money I would travel regularly.
I think he's doing the right thing. He's only 22 and he can return in three, even five years, and still carve out a very good NRL career.

I know its been a while but Cronk used to come off the bench for the Storm when Orford was there. If Hunt isnt playing Origin then I think we need a versatile player that can play a few positions, the other sort of guys are Payne, Graham, Costigan and none really fill me with much confidence.

Yeah I know what you were meaning, but I just don't see Cronk as the answer because of the fact that he really hasn't played anywhere but in the halves since '05. Obviously you can argue that Hunt has never been anything but a fullback, but imo he could adapt his game to fit into the backline, or (if necessary) the back-row a lot easier than Cronk can.
I'd be more inclined to go with Costigan tbh, simply because having him on the bench gives the side a whole lot more balance than having Cronk.
Anyway, it's highly unlikely they'd leave Hunt out for game 3 anyway, so I guess it's a topic best discussed next season
