Any fool can pitch it up. The skill comes from pitching it up and swinging\seaming it. But you can't swing\seam it from a short length.

The ability to bowl short with effect is non-existant. Any good batsman can counter constant short-pitched bowling. Its only effect is to frustrate batsmen into indiscretions, because it's generally difficult to score with much pace against. And even that doesn't often work.

Any batsman who is genuinely dismissed regularly by short deliveries isn't going to last long.

No-one's going to be swinging it for long if it's gone out-of-shape. Mind, Bresnan is more of a swinger than Onions, even though both are capable merchants.
