Well BCCI should stop picking guys on the basis of what they do in the IPL, and they are probably gonna learn this the hard way.
Though picking Nehra wasn't the smartest move, but with Zaheer out of the series, there aren't any more decent fast-bowling options left, who aren't already there in the squad, maybe they could have picked Munaf Patel, but I guess that's about it.
I don't see any other fast-bowler who, one could say should feel unlucky about not being picked ahead of Nehra.

Gony was rubbish even in the IPL. Besides, Nehra did a lot on his own in the second edition, and won a few matches on his own. He was an India regular for some time, and even played a World Cup. Surely, if they wanted to send a strong team to West Indies, he had to be there.There's always a joker picked after every IPL (all 2 of 'em). Gony last time, Nehra this time.
Amazing knocks by Dhoni and RP though. Whats the record for balls faced by a #10? Reckon 75 is right up there.
It's not as bad as having those three Deccan Chargers players in the team. They did nothing of note, and wouldn't have got so far if it wasn't for Gilchrist, Gibbs, Fidel and Symonds, or so many other factors that went their way. Here, all of them have been shown up.

A whole lot of players from other teams who did well in IPL have done well for their teams as well, or are very good even otherwise. Many IPL heroes have been rewarded by their respective boards, so there's no reason why Indian IPL successes should be viewed with suspicion, unless their performance isn't significant. They have no other benchmark- the quality of domestic FC/List-A cricket is questionable compared to the IPL.
As for Munaf, he's finished as a limited-overs bowler, and should never return until he's Jonty Rhodes when he isn't bowling.

There are problems, when you find the best Indian players in the worst of form. Ishant Sharma's going for runs and not finishing his ten overs, Harbhajan gets hit for a few sixes and takes just one wicket in two matches, Gambhir's footwork is either absent or going the wrong way and new find Yusuf Pathan is misfiring. It seems to be that kind of phase, which may be let pass, while the Indians can work on what's best for them rather than chop and change so often, or they'll lose a lot of their best players.
Some questionable decisions have been taken so far, and they need to be reversed. Dhoni and Yuvraj are the top two ODI batsmen, and they need to be in the top four. They can't have rookies doing their job so often, as it will backfire badly when they get found out. These two, apart from Gambhir, are the only ones who have some amount of control over the big hits, which we don't see of the rest. Karthik isn't good enough to bat in the top six; they should just forget that he's an option, and go back to proper batsmen. Badrinath and Vijay can do the job, and they should be cast as reserves. Rohit Sharma batting above Yuvi and MSD is a bad move. He never batted above Gilly, Gibbs and Roy in the IPL anyway.
As for the bowling, the top four just don't have the firepower to defend a total under 300, and the part-time support is no support. They have to score well over 300 or have five regular bowlers capable of scoring at least 50 collectively if they have to win, but this is not a full team, even on paper.

Rampaul was very impressive doesn't solve the lack of death bowling we have but means we'll always have a decent test bowling line up providing Rampaul can stay fit and improve on the form he showed in the FC season, forget how young he is though, only 25, still time for the guy to improve similar to the way Edwards has after a spell of injuries.Well bowled, Rampaul, and well batted, Morton....
Still not totally convinced about Morton's batting, did all that was required today but it was in a pretty easy situation, Morton still has the potential to become stuck against spin and this was somewhat shown today and a bit friday too. Should never get considered for a test place.

Around 9 months till he's back but what are the chances of him 1) actually getting a place having missed the FC season and 2) actually doing well once he's got his test place
Not convinced he'll solve any problems tbh, is he the type to work dilligently knowing you're not going to play for 2 years? Hope he is but again not really convinced.

It's against bowlers who can actually bowl that we'll miss Dravid and Tendulkar when they go. I don't care about these games, but I worry for the Test future if these guys are lining up to be the replacements.

I agree....
Morton should remain an ODI player. But, IMHO, Rampaul must be considered for the Test series against Bangladesh, ahead of Baker, based on this performance.
As for Samuels, when he comes back into the game, he should walk into the Jamaica side, since players like Parchment and even Marshall haven't exactly set the world alight with their batting in the domestic scene. However, I think he needs to work hard to get back into contention for WI selection....
