Not chokers particularly, just are hugely over-rated.

At this level they're a solid side that look good when you let them. I'd fancy a decent well disciplined side to at least keep them to a 0-0. As I say they're the CDMs of international football.
By no means over-rated. But i do agree a extremely disciplined side can keep them tied down as Italy showed in the EURO quarter-final.

That defeat by the USA i think shows how important Senna is to their mid-field. Good signs for ENG potentially if they keep improving going into the WC, a physical premiership style game could jostle the Spanish if they were to meet up.

Err yes hugely over-rated. They won many games in a row and won Euro 2008 by default & by penalties - this gives a false impression because winning the World Cup is a totally different challenge (but people don't fully adjust for this). They're actually listed as favourites for the World Cup when they should be behind Brazil, Argentina, Italy and Germany for starters. They should be about the same odds as the Netherlands.

As far as England are concerned they should be worried about beating some of that big four if they have serious ambitions of winning the World Cup.

Italy and Germany
Go on, then, put money on them. Those are sides that are rated solely on past record.

International class players from Germany: Lahm. Possibly Ballack. Keeper choice is not solved - their best one conceded fifty-odd goals at Hannover - their centre backs are slow and lumbering, the pig-climber has been terrible at club level this year and Gomez, well, remains Gomez and won't score if you give him a crowd of 50,000. Finally, Spain played Germany off the park in the Euro.

Italy haven't scored for yonks. They're terrible. Admittedly getting Donadoni out helps, and they have a decent U21 crop, but, again, a decently organised side should keep them to 0-0 without problems.

Brazil should be lower, I'll concede that one.

Haa What?. The only games in Euro 08 that they were challenged was vs Italy, while the German's at times during the final challenged them, but Spain were clearly better. I dont know what you were watching.

Yes but winning the European championship is far harder than winning the WC, given the conjestion & the fact you are unlikely to play a minnow side 90% of the time, even in the group stages.

No way should Italy & Germany be ahead of them as Samuel_Vines rightly said. My god scaly have you not been follwoing WC qualifiers?

Brazil & Argentina will always be dangerous, but clearly Spain are the form football team in the world, thats not debatable.

The Dutch although they are are running rampant in qualifying, as we saw in EURO 08 they dont have much of defense to back up their brilliant attacking talent. So no wa should they be on par with Spain it the favourites odds.

As far as England are concerned they should be worried about beating some of that big four if they have serious ambitions of winning the World Cup.
No doubt. But all im saying is that if USA can beat Spain, it should give ENG tentative confidence. Because the likely physical game that they used to topple them, ENG clearly once they continue to improve going into WC with all players fit, have the players to do what the USA did more effectively.

They're still Germany. They will still be capable of grinding their way through the competition. Germany in the Euros were very attacking and left themselves wide open - perfect for a side like Spain that needs time and space to pass their way through.

Italy are always terrible, when they have good attacking players they're still dire. It nearly always takes penalties to knock them out though.

These two teams have shown time and again that they have that knack of winning World Cups. Spain have shown time and again that while they look good, they can be bullied and frequently get knocked out with barely a whimper.

Overrated but not hugley. France proved it in the 2nd round of the 2006 world cup when they just completely out manouvered Spain to win 3-1 after going down a goal early on.

Not hugley iam afraid, they did win some really tough matches en route to that Euro win.

When?

They had a piss easy group.
They beat Italy on glorified coin tossing.
They beat Russia who were basically appalling against them, again.
Then Germany was a perfect match up because that side played mediocre wide open football.

Midweek internationals - judging by yesterday's Guardian, which I acquired after having been fleeced £3 by the shop assistant (plus £1 for an ice cream), there is only one match on, Netherlands vs England, but there are actually some important matches in North America. Plus I forgot some matches from last time around.

21 June:

Conakry, grp E: Guinea 2-1 Malawi (Guinea duly did their job, but not impressively, and still have some work to do to qualify for the finals - which would be their first failed qualification since 2002, when internal FA troubles saw them banned.)
Bamako, grp D: Mali 3-1 Benin (a bit more to form, Mali won comfortably, which paves the way even more for group leaders Ghana, who now lead by five points with four games to go.)

5 July:

Cairo, grp C: Egypt 4-0 Rwanda (an easy win after a solid, if fruitless Confederations Cup effort, means Egypt are still chasing Algeria. Trailing by three points with two away games to play, though, means it will be tricky.

North and Central America

20.00, Ciudad de México: Mexico vs United States (just a couple of weeks ago, Mexico won by a comfortable 5-0 in a packed Giants Stadium to lift the Gold Cup for the first time since 2000 - despite dropping points to Panama in the group stage and needing a penalty shoot-out to beat Costa Rica. The US will presumably have more of their European stars back for this match - they were rested from the Gold Cup to cooperate with European clubs - and the pressure will be on the hosts, but the US have not taken more than one draw from Mexico in 23 (!!) attempts, perhaps one of the stranger statistics in world sports.)
23.30, Port of Spain: Trinidad and Tobago vs El Salvador (in the bottom-dwellers' match, it is likely that the hosts will come up top and eliminate both teams from contention. Trinidad have not conceded a goal in two home meetings with El Salvador, and gave away a 2-0 lead during the final ten minutes of the return leg.)
01.30, San Pedro Sula: Honduras vs Costa Rica (group leaders Costa Rica have been solid and consistent, without the massive upsets - a home win against the US doesn't really count given the US' horrible record there - but against another rising side from Central America, it will no doubt be tough. Costa Rica hold a slight 18-14 lead on head-to-head, though it stands 14-13 to Honduras if the count starts from 1960.)

Code:
Costa Rica 5 4 0 1 9-5 12
USA 5 3 1 1 10-6 10
Honduras 5 2 1 2 6-6 7

I'm guessing the Netherlands have played 7 games.

Anyway glad someone bumped this so I can mock the quality of Norway v Scotland. Jocks just gone down to 10 men, referee seems quite card happy.

Riise scores from the resultant free kick... Heh.

Would love Belarus to dick Croatia. Not only do us a favour, qualification-wise, it'd further wipe the grin off Bilic's face, the shiny-suited, earring-wearing, chain-smoking ****.

Never mind all that, the Australian footballing juggernaut rolls on with a 3-0 away thumping of Ireland. If you get a chance check out David Carney's injury-time strike.

If it's Wednesday it must be another clean sheet
