Arafat's injury must be serious.

When is Pepler Sandri going to play? Looks like he is going the way of Dom Telo...

Yes surprised Freddie returned so soon, knew he'd been progressing well, but still didn't expect it. A wicket and a typically economical effort in his opening spell.

Can't say I'm surprised to see Smith lose his openers spot. Shame Croft misses out, have been impressed with what I have seen of him so far.

None of Durham's batsmen wanting to go on and make a significant contribution yet it seems. Still will be disappointed if they can't bowl out Lancashire's rickety batting lineup for a cheap score.

Jonathan Bairstow comes in for his FC debut for Yorkshire (see discussion in the young talent to watch thread).
Any relation to David Bairstow? if so, I'm astonished his mum allowed him to pursue a career in cricket after what happened to DB.

Elsewhere, Surrey have done itheir usual failure-to-bowl-out-the-tail routine, with Panesar of all people featuring in a decent 9th wicket stand.

Nel just needs one more for his best figures in first class cricket, currently has 6 for 36 off 19. In contrast Dirtbag and Ryno are both going at over 4 runs an over. Monty just two runs away from his career best with the bat...

Dernbach in the wickets again though, 16 at 24 so far ... could this be his 'breakthrough' season?

And is Harris injured already? Looks like he couldn't finish an over.

Dernbach is crap, like a worse version of Saj if that's possible.
He has lacked control in the past (making it odd that he's played so much one-day cricket) but it's easy to forget how young he was when he started out. Clearly the club see potential in him, but he's not yet the finished article by any means.

If he can finish the season with 40+ wickets at reasonable cost I imagine that will be seen as quite satisfactory.

Didn't know Luke Fletcher could bat. If so makes him even more of a prospect.

Gawd do England need some8-)

Got that awesome List A strike rate though, can't be ignored as a sign of potential. Around the 30 mark and he is just an average county quick but he truly has an exceptional strike rate, which must be noted is coupled with an exceptionally bad economy rate. From what I've seen of him, he looks a pretty good bowler, pitches it up and swings it, but seems to really bowl too many half volleys in his attempts to pitch it up, his short balls tend to skid on to the bat too.

"That gave Sajid Mahmood his first wicket and he added another when Gordon Muchall managed to slap a long hop to cover"

Super.
