If golf used that system Jack Nicklaus would still be in the top ten!

And what confederation a team is in should have zero influence over the ranking system; noted that the elo one has a lesser bias in this regard than the official one.

Oh, btw, grecian

Thanks:)

But, as you say, means little, they'll qualify whatever....

Oh yes, personally would love to see all the Asian & Concacaf teams put against mid-ranked European teams. Would soon sort the wheat from the chaff, IMHO. Honduras against Portugal.....

bias towards historical achievements? Er...yes, that's how you found a rating system - by looking at historical achievements of each team. If teams from asia start doing well at the world cup and confederations cup, points will drift over to that confederation, and other teams will be lifted when they beat those teams which have done well.

Sounds like footy in NZ has been coming on quite a bit anyway. in 92 the all-whites toured England and got smashed 7-0 at PP by the whites. Shame you never won last night, always good to see the Italians brought down a peg or two.

What's the crack with the Oceania WC 1/2 place now that Aus have buggered off?

Saw the goals in highlights. Fair to say a couple of them were due to shoddy defending. Boyens' attempted clearance stood out.

Spain should have won 8-0 for mine. I suppose your screwed when your captain plays in the Premier League but is out injured, one of your strikers was the Golden Boot in the A-League and your other striker collects splinters in his arse from all the sitting on the bench at Celtic.

Killen is still at Celtic? Surprised he's not injured as well tbh

Last four games before play-offs in Asia

10.20, grp 1, Melbourne: Australia vs Japan (this group is decided, and the teams play for FIFA rankings. Where Australia could crack the top 20 with a win today.)
11.00, grp 2, Seoul: South Korea vs Iran (The hosts are qualified, but Iran need points to continue their hopes. They have a tied all-time record with South Korea, with the last loss in 90 minutes coming in a 2005 friendly. A draw would mean Saudi Arabia and North Korea can put Iran out by drawing.)
16.30, grp 1, Manama: Bahrain vs Uzbekistan (draw or home win: Bahrain makes play-off. away win: Uzbekistan makes play-off.)
18.00, grp 2, Riyadh: Saudi Arabia vs North Korea (The Saudis are favourites to win this one, having gone unbeaten - excluding shoot-outs - in six meetings with North Korea before the 0-1 loss in Pyongyang this February. The winner is guaranteed a spot in South Africa, but in case of a draw Iran can leapfrog them both - though with kick-off being seven hours later, they will know the effects of the draw.)

Meanwhile in Seoul, Park Ji-Sung saves the Democratic People's Republic's hopes with an equaliser.

Iran can now max reach the play-offs.

North Korea qualify with a draw or better. They make the play-off with a one-goal loss as long as they score at least two themselves.

Saudi Arabia make the play-off with a draw, and qualify with a win.

Code:
Australia 12-1 20 Q South Korea13-4 16 Q
Japan 10-5 15 Q North Kor(7)7-5 11
------------------- -------------------
Bahrain (7) 5-8 7 Iran 8-7 11
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Qatar 4-13 6 E Saudi Ar (7)8-8 11
Uzb'stan (7)5-9 4 UAE 6-17 2 E
Australia's 6-2-0 record is the best in Asia since the introduction of two final round groups (1994).
