Yeah, it's 4 points, but DPRK still have to go to Saudi and probably lose there. Then it's "just" a case of getting a point in Seoul. Would think that's 50-50.

Can't see any Kiwis scoring on North Korea though.

My tips right now

Asia 1: Australia (c'd)
Asia 2: Japan (c'd)
Asia 3: South Korea
Asia 4: Saudi Arabia
Play-off Asia: Bahrain to beat North Korea
Africa A: Cameroon
Africa B: Tunisia
Africa C: Egypt
Africa D: Ghana
Africa E: Ivory Coast
Hosts: Suid Afrika
CONCACAF 1: US
CONCACAF 2: Costa Rica
CONCACAF 3: Mexico
CONMEBOL 1: Brazil
CONMEBOL 2: Chile
CONMEBOL 3: Paraguay
CONMEBOL 4: Argentina
Europe 1: Denmark
Europe 2: Switzerland
Europe 3: Slovakia
Europe 4: Germany
Europe 5: Spain
Europe 6: England
Europe 7: Serbia
Europe 8: Italy
Europe 9: Netherlands (c'd)
Play-offs: Russia, Greece, Portugal, Bosnia, Ukraine, Scotland, France, Republic of Ireland
Play-off 1: Russia
Play-off 2: Bosnia
Play-off 3: Greece
Play-off 4: Portugal

Play-off Asia/Oceania: Bahrain to beat New Zealand
Play-off: Ecuador to trounce Honduras
Excuse my ignorance. But these two sides potentially being in play-offs, does that mean ATS - they could miss out on WC qualification?

2-0 to Australia, with Japan struggling 1-1 atm. Another good effect from the Australia, without being earth shatter.

Good to see a few of the fringe players that are close to a first team call up get a chance and we didn't overboard and hand charity caps to the likes of Djite, Vidosic and Williams. Need to earn you caps with regular football at club level. Mind you watch this space for Williams to have a cry about other players playing in lower leagues getting selected ahead of him, even if they have been with the squad for a couple years.

MacDonald still can't score a goal at International level. Getting quite funny now.

Would've given Williams a crack for 5 mins, just to tie him up :p

Despite not being able to buy a goal, think the team looks more dangerous with McDonald up front than Kennedy. Should've drilled his chance in the first half though, can't believe it went over.

Yeah was strange not to see Williams on the bench atleast. Looks like Pim just wanted to call him up to squad and see where is at compared to the others. Probably was never in line to play unless he really impressed.

McDonald does create a lot more space for the guys around him then Kennedy and makes the side look better when in full flight. Still would back Kennedy to score you a winner any day of the week. McDonald is basically a goal poacher, not the best option as a lone striker. Has always played as the 2nd striker for Celtic and Motherwell.

Asia, Wednesday

10.00, Sydney, grp 1: Australia 2-0 Bahrain (Another dominant win for the Socceroos. This time they actually scored a bit, too. Bahrain will need to nab points against Uzbekistan at home, which seems achievable.)
10.45, Yokohoma, grp 1: Japan 1-1 Qatar (a flukish own goal brought Japan ahead early in the game, but Qatar equalised on a penalty early in the second half. The Qataris, however, needed a win to stay in the hunt for third.)
11.00, Seoul, grp 2: South Korea vs Saudi Arabia (Due to the fixture list, South Korea have taken the third spot, and a win here for the tourists might help them to fluke into another Cup where they'll go out with a 0-14 goal difference. Though Saudi Arabia won here the last time around, they really haven't impressed so far.)
14.30, Tehran, grp 2: Iran vs UAE (the hosts need to wake up fast - a win here is really a given - and then they'll have to nick three points in Seoul next week. Fairly crazy travelling schedule.

Africa, Sunday

14.30, Yaoundé, grp A: Cameroon 0-0 Morocco (Cameroon keep their record against Morocco in hand, but interim coach Thomas Nkono, who was once arrested by riot police for using black magic, will not be pleased by this result. Gabon, on the other hand, are rubbing their hands in glee.)
15.00, Cotonou, grp D: Benin 1-0 Sudan (the West Africans this time on the right side of a 1-0 result, with footballing nomad Razak Omotoyossi continuing his magnificent international record with his ninth goal in seventeen games.)
16.00, Abuja, grp B: Nigeria 3-0 Kenya (Nigeria, who just beat France on Tuesday, were a class above the opponents, who haven't scored on them since 1981. Kenya had a few chances after Nigeria's opening strike, but Nigeria added the second through a penalty and the third on the counter.)
17.00, Conakry, grp E: Guinea 1-2 Ivory Coast (Ivory Coast join Burkina Faso with a flawless record; they took the lead on the stroke of half-time, and though Guinea equalised, Seville midfielder Romaric scored in his second game running as the group threatens to become a two-team race.
19.00, Bamako, grp D: Mali 0-2 Ghana (Ghana putting things together well enough; after an entertaining first half with chances for both sides, Ghana were better after the interval. Mali will have to concentrate on Africa Cup of Nations places)
19.30, Blida, grp C: Algeria 3-1 Egypt (Well, well. Egypt go bottom of the group after a horrible second-half performance - the first half was fairly even but Egypt's players struggled after the break. This was Egypt's tenth attempt at winning in Algeria, and despite any number of draws they still haven't managed to take full points there.)

Europe, Wednesday

15.45, Skopje, grp 9: FYR Macedonia vs Iceland (these sides just need to start scoring. The 30 degree heat might help the hosts, but in all likelihood just kill the game.
17.00, Göteborg, grp 1: Sweden vs Malta (This partly explains Sweden's low ranking - they haven't played Malta more than once - though they also gave away points against the second eliminated side, Albania. Right back Micke Nilsson is out, which means they have to pick someone even worse.)
17.00, Kyiv, grp 6: Ukraine vs Kazakhstan (Ukraine are well positioned to take second place after their draw in Croatia, and with a decent amount of points in their Kazakhstan matches they should be able to make the play-offs.)
17.30, Helsinki, grp 4: Finland vs Russia (the current Russian generation should be good enough to conquer Finland, but there was a nasty blow to Russian football as the U21 side went down 0-1 to Faroe Islands at Tórshavn yesterday.)
18.15, Tórshavn, grp 7: Faroe Islands vs Serbia (speaking of Tórshavn...anyway, the Faroes aren't out because most of their matches have been scheduled for June, August and September, presumably to avoid the horrible, windy, frigid winter.)
18.45, Rotterdam, grp 9: Netherlands vs Norway (The Netherlands presumably picked De Kuip for this match because of the 9-0 win in 1972, the largest in Dutch history.)
19.15, London, grp 6: England vs Andorra (no way England will miss out now; they get the gimme three points and then they only need three more from three games to be mathematically assured. And that's assuming someone wins five games down below, which doesn't seem likely.)

Thursday

01.30, San Pedro Sula: Honduras vs El Salvador (football war part XIV. The Salvadorians look better on the table, but in my opinion Honduras have a slightly better team, with better continental club results and more players abroad.)
01.30, Ciudad de Mexico: Mexico vs Trinidad and Tobago ('mon Dwight Yorke. A loss for Mexico here would see them go last.)

Code:
Costa Rica 5 4 0 1 9-5 12
USA 5 3 1 1 10-6 10

South America

Sunday 20.30, Lima: Peru 1-2 Ecuador (another defeat for Peru, who seem to have given up.)

Wednesday

21.00, Quito: Ecuador vs Argentina (Up into altitude again for Argentina. Surely it can't be as bad as two months ago, but they really need at least a point to keep the chasing pack at bay.)
23.00, Medellín: Colombia vs Peru (Colombia impress no one with their goalscoring efforts, but against a Peru who can't even win at hoem and have conceded twenty-eight times, surely it's time to take three points.)
Thursday 00.50, Recife: Brazil vs Paraguay (Brazil move their qualifiers out to the northeastern provinces as they attempt to keep their record intact - despite plenty of booing, their 23-5 goal difference and only one loss in 13 games doesn't look so bad. Paraguay, who started well, are now struggling in the absence of Roque Santa Cruz, and despite leading by five points at one point, they might still miss out on top four and assured qualification.)
01.00, Puerto Ordaz: Venezuela vs Uruguay (Uruguay need to rebuild fast after the horrible performance - the goalkeeper at 9 seconds a particular highlight - at home to Brazil. Despite losing more than half their games so far, Venezuela are still in with a shout.)
01.00, Santiago de Chile: Chile vs Bolivia (time to send Bolivia out of the World Cup running - Chile won impressively in Paraguay yesterday, and should go second in the group with a win here.)

Code:
Brazil 13 6 6 1 23-5 24
Paraguay 13 7 3 3 19-11 24
Chile 13 7 2 4 19-14 23

Well about 4 great chances in the first 4 minutes and Rooney puts Andorra out of their misery..decent ball from Johnson

Rooney showing why he doesn't score as many as he should.

Goes for the 'impudent' finish when inside the area, trying to chip it over the keeper instead of just hitting it low and having a much better percentage chance. Muffs the open goal. Then scores with a header only because the keeper is useless.

Don't know why David Pleat doesn't just declare his undying love for David Beckham, its embarrassing, but then again ITV's football commentary itself is embarrassing even in a time when football commentary as a whole is pretty much at its nadir

Been said before, but exactly what purpose do these games serve? Andorra have just come to park the bus. Only surprise is they haven't tried to kick lumps out of us so far.

Surely the bottom 18 or so ranked European teams playing off over two legs with the winners going into the groups proper would eliminate these farces?

GIMH

Plenty of other regions have staggered qualification, the time has surely come for Europe to do the same. I would go a little further than you Brumby as all you are doing is eliminating 9 teams. I would stick the bottom 20(ish) into 4 groups with the winners joining the main qualification stages. Or something like that. Dunno if time would allow it, but if this was cricket then Lampard's goals/game ratio would be furiously recalculated with games like this removed.

Beckham's chances of featuring next summer being discussed. Pleat is doubtful. That settled it for me - Beckham will be going to a 4th WC

Yea this would make sense. Since these kind of games dont really test the players.

Johnsons looking top tonight, but i still dont think he's a international quality right-back.

Can't see an argument against it, tbh. Who crosses a better ball? It's not like his searing pace is on the wane, is it? He's fit & he goes IMHO.

Yeah, needs to get himself another loan deal at the end of the US season though, but yeah, no-brainer

Didn't know that the non-playing squad members from 66 had never got medals before now. And  at Greaves' interview, "who are we playing here?"

"I reckon we could go out and beat them, seriously"

I'd say he has two roles. 15-30 mins cameo on the right after Walcott/Cole gets taken off. Or he could play centrally beside Lamps, where his passing is pretty much on par or better than Barry/Carrick.

If he goes, we'd better not let him take corners and free kicks, hardly ever beats the first man with the former and does something once in a blue moon with the latter(which will keep the commentators bleating about how great he is at set pieces for the next year or so)
