Another important innings from Ed Joyce - 100 not out to take Sussex almost level with Yorkshire. Looks like being a great match, this.

................................ meanwhile at Old Trafford Marcus Trescothick continues to demonstrate why his availability for next month would cause bookmakers worldwide to revise their assessment of the odds on an England victory

Well Fred you and the bookies can't have been reading CW diligently enough then. Didn't you know that every run scored by Marcus Trescothick was the result of sheer unadulterated luck?

my apologies but as a good lancastrian I felt I had to do all I could to get rid of him - it took all day!

I wonder how many chances he gave ............................

Was Faf’s two wickets (bowled) done with the flipper?

Lancs should be utilising his bowling more, as first class cricket with the bat to him is Kryptonite.

Draws left right and centre, as you'd expect. The 'forfeited innings/declaration bowling' tactic seems to be a thing of the past now - most teams seem content to play for bonus points.

Obviously you did use to get an hour or two of pretty dire cricket - not to mention some discredited 'fast hundreds' - but it did often lead to a gripping last day.

It's pretty early in the season to be fair, I'm sure if this was in August/September we'd see more aggressive approaches/funny declarations

Some good performances by a couple of youngsters, Finn managing to get in a decent performance. Also a good debut from Azeem Rafiq taking advantage of Adil Rashid being in Twenty/20 action.:)

Was he the young man whose inclusion led to Yorkshire going out of the Friends Provident last year? I hope it didn't affect him too much, seems to me he was pretty much blameless in the affair.

Flintoff is apparently close to a return, has traveled with the squad to Durham but not included in the official squad because the ECB haven't given him clearance to play as of yet.

Jonathan Bairstow comes in for his FC debut for Yorkshire (see discussion in the young talent to watch thread). Rafiq left out for some reason though.
