Haha, all these cynics.
The Nuggets played like ****, and the best team won. Just like in the previous games where LA played like ****.

Players should stop crying and play.
Do you see the issue they have with Jackson mouthing off against the refs and all of a sudden the next game they get a few tight calls go their way?

It's all a game they're playing with the refs, I don't think any team has been particularly disadvantaged over the course of 5 games but Simmons' article regarding how unwatchable the games have been is what I was talking about yesterday. Too much free throw shooting and not enough actual basketball being played.

I thought the 4th quarter yesterday was probably the best officiated quarter I have seen in the playoffs. Lots of marginal calls both ways that weren't called.

I used to like reading Bill Simmons articles, but these days he is just too cynical.

Well being a Lakers fan you would think that :p

But seriously I thought the officiating wasn't great but leaving Melo on the bench while Denver couldn't buy a bucket was far more important to it all.

Bill's makes two good points though and one is how referee's are now in charge of "managing" the game now and in order to follow some set of numbers or whatever they see to be changing what constitutes a foul from quarter to quarter. Too many gray area's in the rules these days, needs to be more standardized and leave less area's for judgment calls.

The other is how the NBA and trying to protect it's image is affecting the refs. Stern has made a point of getting the "thug" out of the league and any time there is even a hint of aggression these days it's quickly snuffed out because they are scared of another Auburn Hills or MSG style brawl erupting. A good example of this how Artest gets absolutely zero leeway from the refs on anything and has been T'd up three times this playoffs for no apparent reason.

The 90's were the best ball I've ever seen but we've got no hope of ever seeing that type of game coming back because of how watered down everything is. It's no wonder the NBA has fallen well behind the NFL and MLB this decade. All the Jordan era gains are well and truly gone now.

OK, I get that.
I just don't like the thought that Ref's favour certain teams/players. Of course if your team gets a bogus call, I can see such a response but....

And I'm not really a Lakers fan, maybe an old-school Lakers fan.

Haha, I thought I was reading an AFL rant here. You could replace 'NBA' with 'AFL' and you're echoing the same comments here in Australia.

Interesting.

Yeah on NBA.com. Hmmmmm, no interests there at all.

And his points are all related to off court management rather than what happens on the court which is what everyone is bitching about. What a load of crap that article is.

Haha, well I never claimed to be an expert. But I found this part funny:

But over 25 or so years in this profession, I like to deal in things that us fancy-pants reporters call "facts." Here are some:

The San Antonio Spurs have won four NBA titles since 1999.

The Spurs are ratings death.

They are ratings death because you all, in the main, are rank hypocrites. More on that later.

Just never read an article which sprays its readers in such a blunt way

So I gather you think the competition favours the Lakers over other teams, because of their drawing power?

I guess its similar to people who believe the AFL favours non-Victorian teams in order to increase ratings, or provide more intl cricket/better schedules for SA, Aust, Ind and Eng because that's where the money is?

Or is it completely reffing/umpiring that is the issue?

Btw, you may have noticed I (attempt to) draw comparisons to sports I properly follow to help my understanding of the situation in sports I am trying to increase my knowledge in, so don't mind me if you think its completely different or I'm way off :)

No, I think his so called "facts' are just a selective, irrelevant and misleading as the conspiracy theories he's trying to debunk.

My gripe with the officiating hasn't necessarily been favoritism, although "superstar" calls are still rife in the league but more due to how much it stifles the game and doesn't allow for individuality and having a genuinely competitive "battle."

Fwiw, I think some of the theories have some merit but the people who propagate them don't do themseleves any favours with how over the top they are.

Nice to see Cleveland actually remembering how to play (so far) in the 4th quarter this time around.

Jono, can you please check your PM's :)

Cool.

Out of curiosity, why do the Knicks suck so much?
