Put me down in that column as well. I'd take Bangladesh v Zimbabwe any day. Would probably choose some ICC World Cricket League games over the IPL too if I had the choice.

agree that more people in the forum ...might like to watch Ban Vs Zim over IPL...but that is because we love cricket more than for its entertainment value and are ready to go on discussing about it for days and days ..but the commn peooe who like IPL just want an entertainment for 3 hours and sadly we will be minority in that case

Totally agree! Despite our tight schedules we find time to read and write certain thing about our fav. game cause we love the game and we dont love it JUST for the entertainment, we love it from bottom of our heart!

I stop my bike or car whenever I see some local games or even the kiddies playing cricket. Its just like a magnet...

And unfortunately we will remain minors and Modis will keep toying with it cause such entertainment appeals common people!

I am happy with 1 IPL but certainly want to see more of a test cricket and not the 2nd tourney of IPL every year...

The Yanks bought Cricinfo because the second most traffic comes from the US. There are more cricket fans in the USA than in Australia, England, NZ, WI but the main problem is that they are expats and wouldn't be interested in supporting an American team, having them as internet followers works well for ESPN.

I would understand the dislike for IPL amongst some of the non-Indians. It can be irritating when their domestic league has nothing to hoot abt and when their players go on and play in an Indian domestic league as if it's the next big thing and in the process may be depriving them [in case of re-scheduling or whatever] of some games involving their home team

a Zim vs BD game over an IPL game is non-starter for me mainly because IPL is more competitive, has more teams, 8 to 16 overseas players playing on a given day. But I appreciate all those who would be sipping their coke watching Zim vs BD game in the name of following international cricket over an IPL game. Yes, these ardent followers of international cricket, test cricket or whatever cricket are helping keep true cricket alive [and not getting it killed by IPL]. Imagine their sacrifice, how difficult it would be to not watch a Gilly or a Hayden or a Tendulkar or a Ponting bat but see Tamin Iqbal bat!

Long live such fans of cricket!

Not quite sure what point you're trying to make.

Anyhow I for one would watch an IPL game sooner than a Zim v BD Test. But that doesn't mean that T20 is better than Test cricket. It's not. T20 has a superficial attraction, of course, but at its core it's quite a poor game. And the reason for people's hostility towards the T20 explosion is that it poses various threats to a truly wonderful game which really should matter, ie Test cricket.

If you would rather T20 thrived than Test cricket, that's up to you I suppose. Seems like a pretty shabby future to me though, and, I think, to most of us on CW, wherever we live.

I don't go by the formats, I go by where I get good quality and emotional attachment [from my PoV] for e.g. I would catch an Ind vs Pak ODI over a test match being played b/w say OZ and NZ. Just because OZ vs NZ is a test, I wouldn't watch it over an Ind vs Pak ODI .... Similarly, I would watch an IPL T20 over any format game played b/w Zim vs BD [that's what is being implied]

That's not the reason. I love NZ domestic cricket, would watch every game if it was on TV.

Especially if the internationals and ICL players played more often. We'd get some kickass line ups.

In fact, I'm gutted the spectacle of 18 year old Kane Williamson smashing Bond around the park wasn't on TV. Thats far more interesting than the IPL, and I imagine even people in India and Australia would be interested in seeing one of the worlds current great bowlers being challenged by a teenager.

If we allow the IPL two tournaments, plus the CL (which I actualy like more because it means something, my biggest gripe about the IPL is they're boring franchises), plus the 20/20 WC, plus some ODIs, plus some...two tests. Its either that or all the players get injured.

Yeah this. BCCI and the broadcasters don't care too much about what the Aussies, Kiwi's and Brits think of it. Circus cricket that is on at primetime every day is tailor made for the Indian consumer and they'll slurp it up forever.

I actually wouldn't mind a split season of the IPL as long as they were shortened periods. A sort of Apetura and Clausura type situation. If they could window it so it doesn't interefere with the beginning of the English and Aussie seasons we could see all major nations available for the entirety of the tournament and tone down the overkill factor of the current format. Throw in a mid season transfer window so teams can re-tool for the run in and it could be quite fun.

you must realize that they are meant mainly for Indians .... if you think that IPL franchises [even though they are not for you] are boring despite it having so much for international fans then you must realize how boring your talk on NZ domestic cricket would sound to those who don't give a cent abt NZ cricket [to compare apples to apples] and when you take that and compare the success and following of IPL worldwide then it's impact is just amazing!!

I don't think international folks [not considering exceptions] would wake up to see a teenager smash Bond in a NZ domestic tourney considering that folks [again talking abt the majority] didn't even tune in to see ICL to see Bond bowl well or get smashed

Yeah sure, I know people like it, but I struggle to personally, and even though its meant for a mainly Indian market, that market is at risk of succeeding at the other 7 nations expense in terms of when we're actualy going to have time to play something thats not 20/20.

Maybe Modi is a genius, I don't know, but I'm worried that there won't be any such thing as WI vs England tests or NZ vs SL tests or such in the future because the IPL market becomes more lucrative and therefore more important. It would be completely yawn inducing for those in the losing "market", and even though compared to India they're a tiny percentage, there's still a lot of fans in that group.

I get your PoV .... in fact I already said that I can understand why many from other countries may not like IPL.
