How is he still good enough? Why do we need him?.
Because he is still the second best striker behind Wazza that we have. Even if he isn't a first team player anymore, come a major match i want Owen coming off the bench instead of Defore, Crouch, C Cole without a doubt.

Yes it would be nice to have the 1998 Owen back, but it would also be nice to have the 1990 Gascoigne, the 1996 Seaman and the 2001 Beckham... none of whom exist any more. Get used to it.
England doesn't need Owen of 98 or as recent as Euro 04 back either. But he isn't passed it, he has just got caught up in a shocking Magpies side, that even Rooney may have struggled to score consistently.

Lets not forget Owen between december to early January was on a solid goal-scoring run & Capello didn't pick him...

Maybe there is a God.

Saying that, if Hull have any sense they'll send Brown packing.
Quite. One bullet and Brown or BFS standing in front of you would be a hard choice, tbh. Massive, massive client. Think I heard one win in the last 22 games? Wanker.

Not deliberately having love-in with Mr P, but totally agreed. If his bosom buddy Sir Alan prefers Martins with one leg & a tubby, ageing Aussie to young Michael I think it's time to start nailing the lid down.

I really believe Shearer himself would of done a better job then Owen, time to draw a line under him. I think LA Galaxy are calling.....

In all seriousness, if he stays on the temptation must be there next year. Obviously looks after himself still and has a pre-season to get fit.

He has scored one goal in 16 since Christmas.
I probably got my dates wrong, but it was either before the WCQ's againts Andorra/Croatia or Kazakstan/Belarus, where Owen was in a solid goal-scoring run & Newcastle handled plummited yet.

Capello picked Defoe etc ahead & i remember him saying strangely that Owen wasn't fit enough or enciting the idea he was, "goal-poacher" just because he had come on in a few games as a sub i think and scored late.

When the magpies began to go downhill after christmas/early january. It affected Owen, thats it. Since i see no difference in the Owen today, than the one that scored 2 vs Russia @ Wembley in 07.

Fabio knows best....One thing that is becoming increasingly prevalent with some of his selection, is that he picks players who are fit & in form - even if they are questions about their quality @ International level.

Which would explain why he chose Lescott, Carson, Defoe, Neville, Crouch/C Cole instead of Woodgate/King, Hart, Agbonlahor, Brown/Richards, Bent.

Hopefully as the qualifiers plays out he see's that the latter set aint good enough & gets the right blokes in the squad.
