interseting question but, no straight forward answer.that's interesting.
Was it always designed for Aussie Rules football or was it designed for cricket but used for AFL?
Thats quite a big claim. Off the top of my head I could suggest Green Bay. Population 100 353.We of Melbourne love our sport and pay to see it in numbers that (popn adjusted) would outstrip any other city in the world, but do you really think we would build (then rebuild) a 100,000 seat stadium for Cricket?
yeah, but that aint a real city. Fans obviously come in from elsewhere. And that is but one sport. What's their next biggest crowd puller at a different stadium?Thats quite a big claim. Off the top of my head I could suggest Green Bay. Population 100 353.
Lambeau Field holds 72,928 and has been sold out on a season-ticket basis for every Green Bay Packers game since 1960.
There is also a waiting list of 81 000 for Season tickets and the wait for new list members is expected to be longer than a reasonable lifetime.
It is and then more from outside. There is not a city (that I know of) that has a local population city attendance in professonal sport like Green Bay.Yeah, but Green Bay's population isn't supporting the Packers really - not on its own.
I would bet you Philadelphia, which is my city. Population is 1.4 million. Phillies average great figures over an 81 game home season (3.4 million attendance total). Eagles stadium has a capacity of 68,532, and is sold out for a decade. I have been on the season ticket waiting list for six years, and still I haven't gotten a call. And we also have Hockey and Basketball. We of Melbourne love our sport and pay to see it in numbers that (popn adjusted) would outstrip any other city in the world, but do you really think we would build (then rebuild) a 100,000 seat stadium for Cricket?
Good call.....actual city, multiple sports.I would bet you Philadelphia, which is my city. Population is 1.4 million. Rather than derail this thread further, Green Bay has a small popualtion and manages to completely support a franchise in the largest sport on the planet. Something cities like LA (over 10 mil) and Las Vegas cant do.The reply of Green Bay is like saying everyone in Dimboola (small town) went to the footy on Saturday.
Where I live at the moment is Ballarat, a town (although yes it also likes to refer to itself as a city) of similar size to Green Bay that has zero pro sports teams, so yes it is impressive that they have one. But if Ballarat did have one, a large proportion of the crowd would have to come from Melbourne to make it viable.
I hope you understand what I'm saying.
cheers
LA could support an NFL team though - and Vegas only doesn't have one because of the negative images that Vegas brings to mind.Rather than derail this thread further, Green Bay has a small popualtion and manages to completely support a franchise in the largest sport on the planet. There isnt a town/city on the planet that could match what Green Bay can do and comparing it to the footy at Ballarat doesnt fly.
Well it has lost 2 teams already and had none of the local levels of passion, ownership and attendance as others. So that point is debateable.LA could support an NFL team though
Synonymous FTR.sinonimous (no idea how to spell that)

Do you watch it?IPL criticisms
Its a tacky franchise based money whore that sells a boring variation of cricket as its product.
All a matter of opinion of course.
