Where are all the posts about how England's batting is actually useless and the pitch was just ridiculously flat? Did it turn into a minefield when Strauss declared?
Ha ha.

Well, that could never be used as an excuse @ Chester-le-Street.

I think Alastair Cook played a classic test innings personally. He saw off the new ball and "sticky" moments at the begin, didn't play at too many unnecessary deliveries and then as he got some runs under his belt, grew in confidence and started moving his feet well and played some beautiful strokes with expert timing.

He even played some nice front-foot drives which I haven't seen from him for a good 2 years!

I liked how Pietersen batted until his dismissal. I'm not going to slam him too much though since if you change the natural game of batsmen like him, they will be ineffective. His aggresive mindset is what makes him, on his day, capable of getting massive runs.

What's the odds that he finds form around the Ashes, gets a few centuries in that series and carries his form through the South Africa test series and repeats the dose?

I wouldn't bet against it.

No. Just a shower started batting on it against a far better bowling line-up.

Hope the Windies hang on tonight (don't think they will though).

One-all over the two series a fair result IMO

I wish Gayle hadn't got out, he played some real good shots last night. Onions isn't that impressive, I reckon Brenson looks better.

LOL. Thats like saying that in the last 6 months McDonald's looked more impressive than Siddle. Have you actually been watching the series?

Yeah I have and Bresnan has looked pretty good to me, he gets a lot more bounce then Onions who is nothing more then medium pace. You saw what Gayle did to him yesterday, imagine what Ponting, Clarke, and Hughes will do to him. Onions is nothing but a one test wonder. Bresnan will be a better test bowler then him.

Nah Bresnan is pretty **** house, I don't really see anything in Onions though, the only bowler from England that looks half decent is Anderson and SOMETIMES Broad when he isn't bowling four balls.

Onions looks a hell of a lot better than last time I saw him play for Durham, so I don't mind him. At least he's showing some form of progress. Bresnan's a big, french lump of humdrum-ness atm.

Bresnan's not very impressive, no. Getting smashed by Suliemann Benn doesn't fill one with confidence.

Bresnan is a tidy and useful cricketer but not (England) Test quality. Happy to have him at Yorks but Test cricket, at the highest level, is a game for specialists.

He gets it down pretty quickly, much quicker than I seem to recall, but he does seem quite the average bowler. Doesn't do much to force wickets. The batting record is average and so he'd need to be a better bowler to hold down a long term spot.

Yeah i was just thinking he might be trying to bowl too fast and sacrificing accuracy/effectiveness.

Well, England might go through a whole lot of frustration here if they are to win - stubborn short rain episodes and good batting so far.

After James Anderson he looks like the best of the English bowlers on show.

Think you need to get your eyes tested mate. Broad and Onions have easily outbowled Bresnan. Bresnan got carted around and was bowling awfully to Sulieman Benn yesterday.

Simmons gone. Rank short delivery from Anderson, but an even worse shot from Simmons. Tough tour for him, battling with his technique in swinging conditions. He'll improve as a player because of this experience though, I think if he improves his technique he could be a very good player.

Because they have been given overs, Bresnan gets a few here and there. Broad is never going to be a good bowler, way to expensive and he doesn't swing it at all. Anderson is turning into a very very good bowler, Bresnan just has that look of a wicket taker.

Right on cue.
