***Official*** IPL 2009

The idea behind the 4 international players limit says to me, "Come for your favourite players, stay for the team". However, it is undeniable that coverage of the IPL in generic news media is still focused on the big names. Of what interest is the success of an Indian domestic player to an Australian paper? If a player from the country I support is doing well in the IPL, I begin to wonder, "why can't we have these players playing in our own premier league?". Excluding issues of finance, of course.

I think I can appreciate a good game regardless of who's playing or who's winning. I could arbitrarily choose a team to support even if I have no cultural or geographical link to whatever region they represent, and have done that in the past. But for that to happen it takes time. It also helps if they each develop a discernible personality to help choose (ie. the hard-luck team, the rich team everyone hates, the out-and-out aggressive team, the team with cunning, etc.). I'm not sure if this is possible with 20/20. So far in IPL2, all I know is that no one seems to like KKR.

The IPL looks to be a very successful product in India, which it should be. Outside of India though, I think there needs to be more leagues to generate local interest. Then we might get into the idea of transfers across leagues, as well as between teams.

IPL has everything related to India ..so don't think BCCI wont be much bothered about how much money or impact it creates in other part of the world ...rite now for me IPL is like Bundes Liga...some others watch it becuase they might like the players playing in some team

that said BCCI will very much Like it to be like EPL....with huge fan following ..but i think even EPL is not much watched in any other Europen contry compared to thier home league

Why should they care about being successful outside India - except to Indian expatriates? The costs would be higher, while the benefits would be marginal.

Modi has said the foreign player limit of four will not be increased.

I agree - the IPL has no obligation to anyone else but Indian supporters. What I'm saying is that the rest of the countries need to come up with their own versions.
Yea, I think England is about to start its own (modified) version next year - Pro20 or something.

The Champion's League should be the 'worldwide' product - the IPL should be the domestic league.

Really, as an Australian, or an Englishman, you're much likely to support NSW or Middlesex over Rajasthan any day, and Champion League rewards that. IPL does not.

Thats the domestic structure i believe. Don't think any IPL like tournament structure is planned.

No. The CL, ICL should not exist. Cricket's schedule is jam-packed already, dont need a whole set of major wild or unsanctioned T20 tournaments all over the place.

The IPL should have been the worldwide product. This whole thing again goes back to the structure of the ICC, in which the BCCI was able to dictate ultimatums to them for the IPL. Modi making such a statement is just embarassing.

Wow, RP Singh just shows he can do it himself. Rips out Sanath and Sachin in consecutive balls... the heart of Mumbai's batting.

Going to be tough from here. Need a Duminy special.

Shoaib Ahmed has a very light complexion. Thought he was a white guy for a minute.

IPL is the domestic structure. Pro20 will have a couple foreign players per team, just like the IPL.

The Champions League is sanctioned, and it is 50% is owned by BCCI, 30% by CA, and 20% by CSA.

Haha, what ultimatums were those? "Let us play cricket in our own country using our own facilities or......."

Harmeet Singh is village. He really is medium, bout same pace as an Afridi quicker ball (probably slower). He gets some swing though but it is so gentle and from the hand which makes him useless.

Mumbai have made a mountain out of a mole hill. All they need was someone (Bravo) to hang around with JP and it would be game but Dwayne went silly bollocks against a part-timer and Nayar has done them same.
