Thaiday, O'Donnell and Creagh all back rowers.

Weyman needs more than 4 good games in a row to make the test team. He doesnt have a cool nickname like "The Wolfman" so he needs to put in performances over time to get in there. Hannant imo probably would have been next prop picked.
I know they're backrowers - just making the point that we've picked the same failed backrow we picked in the World Cup. And yeah, Wolfman's selection was singularly the cheapest Test cap handed out in all sport in 2008. "Oh the guy has a beard, a funny name, and he's a cult figure, let's pick him in the WC Final!!"

The biggest myth in sport is that you actually have to have played the game at a high level to be qualified to be a selector. I mean, seriously, I could pick a better team than these clowns. Oh well, at least we're showing loyalty to the guys who lost it for us last year.

Yet you originally singled out the 3 front-rowers..... I think you'll find most agree that the back-row they've selected isn't the best available, but that doesn't answer the question re: the front-rowers.

Yes you mentioned Hannant and Weyman, but it's really probably wait until they play a little more than half a season of good football before selecting them ahead of Price/Petero and Bailey, who've been doing it for years.

Using my judgement, I think Weyman and Hennant are currently better players and would do a better job. Time to head in a new direction, rather than being a hostage of the past.

Hardly being a hostage though in this instance is it? Petero and Price are amongst their teams best week in week out. Not to mention they have a few years ahead of them yet, probably in this sort of form as well.

But yeah looks like it's an agree to disagree kinda scenario here.

Grow up.

I am right. You are wrong.

Just joking.

I'm not saying Petero and Pricey are clowns. Just that perhaps it's time to go for guys who are a little more vital and youthful.

Like in cricket, how we've taken the plunge with the Prince, Manboobs and Dick.

We lost one game for FFS, just so happened to be the world cup final, where we were totally screwed over mind you, the cricket team was obviously a whole different story. You can be assured if Hayden, Lee, Clark etc... were fit and in as good of cricket form as Petero and Price and Bailey are in league then the likes of Hughes and Siddle wouldnt have played a test yet.

Big difference between blooding players for the future through forced changes and dropping players.

Hang on.

So, on paper, you don't think NZ have a better forward pack?

I do.

On paper at least, we've always been superior.

Now we don't even have that going for us.

NZ are young and vital - move with it.

No I dont think New Zealand have a better forward pack. Our pack is considerably better imo.

Youth is over rated, we arent playing this match to prepare for the future, we are playing this match to win this game and this game alone, you pick the team to win the next game, not the 2011 Tri Nations final or whatever.

That we can agree on Simon.

I think this match is more important than the WC or the next TS (which, with the effluxion of time and natural attrition, will look after itself).

Why though, it just doesn't make sense. The 3 of them are clearly (imo, and obviously in the opinion of the selectors) the best 3 props Australia has, and by veering away from them, you're only going to weaken the teams forward pack. Who would you suggest they pick?
Callum Ferguson.

Australia don't really play enough matches to build for the future. If anything that what State of Orgin can be used for to develop future Australian players. I think we have seen in the past when guys like Clinton, Mataui, Creagh, Waterhouse, Anasta etc were picked for Australia before playing SOO it effected their rep potential and they went backwards rather then forwards. It amazing the different in a players rep performances after one SOO series.

I think Tim Sheens has noticed this and picked a side that has some rep experience. It might not be the best side on form. But long term I think that a better policy then picking form players with little or no rep experience. You effectively end up re-building every season. Look at Joel Clinton at 27 he is seen as over the hill/ had he papers marked at rep level).

The difference for the Kiwis is the NZ A set up and to extent how they use players from Soman and Tonga. They have a step up that allows them to develop a side and continously blood talent. But that also has to do with smaller pool of players to select from.
