Can't say I've ever seen the boy bowl, tbh. But he sounds about Hoggard pace and Hoggy had a successful career only moving the ball one way.

Plus he has youth on his side too.

Mahmood's now been gifted one, and possibly even worse, so has Luke Wright.

Two to go... let's just hope Woakes gets at least one more.

And WI have every right to be disgusted with the pitches they appear to have gotten. OK, it's not neccessarily anyone's fault, but they've all apparently been bowler-friendly, which is the last thing you want when you're trying to prepare for a Test series, especially a two-match one.

A greentop was always a possibility in Derbyshire in April.
Might do them more good than seeing off Somerset's attack at Taunton, I suppose.

See how England bat on it first before we lay into the wicket.

It isn't like Mahmood and Plunkett have done much on it and the Windies have got a two man batting line-up.

Fair comment: the fact that their last 4 wickets added 130ish suggests it wasn't unplayable.

Oh dear, England 13/3. Jerome Taylore really is good.

Excellent opportunity for Bell and Patel to show what they're made of.

Chris Woakes will become an England player he has shown massive improvement in the last 5 years but he always had it in him. I have played in the same side as Chris back in 2002 and 2003. I am pleased for him today as he is a good lad

Trott's done his England chances alot of good.......out for 0 from 2 balls.
In fairness Pietersen only scored 1 more run, lasted 1 more ball, in a more important match, on a (probably) better pitch, against Taylor earlier this year.

That's a lot of commas.

I guess it just goes back to the fact that, ideally, you want 2-3 games on flatties then a couple on green seamers. Get the batsmen into form and confidence then get them tested.

Sadly, as we remark on with not-a-little regularity, this doesn't happen much (TSTL!!!!!!!!!) currently.
