Drogba is in the same mould (battering ram forward), just ten times the player and Pique looked good against him. It was Marquez, who didn't look like comfortable against Didier, far too slow and that meant Barca had to play deeper than they should have.

And when you consider that it wasn’t too long ago that Man U had O’Shea and Neville as their centre-halves, not sure what was so good about the deal, especially as 6 million is relatively nothing.
£6 million is a good price for a reserve centre-half, remembering of course that we paid nothing for him, who had served us well but was hitting the age and time of his career when both he and the club realised he had to be playing more regularly, which wasn't going to happen at United.

Could you remind me when Neville and O'Shea were United's regular first choice central defensive pairing?

Pique was very unconvincing in the cup matches he played on dodgy pitches against physical sides. He played well against Drogba but it's much easier to deal with an aerial threat when your side defends as far up the pitch as Barcelona do. Pace is much more important for sides that want to defend that way, and Pique, while at United at least, was much faster than he was good in the air.

Essentially, he fits Barcelona's style of play much better than he does United's. You can have big centre-backs and defend deep, or you can have fast centre backs and hold a high line. Without bothering to get into the pros and cons of either, Pique's a player perfect for the latter but not a lot of use when it comes to the former.

When did I say they were Man U’s first choice pairing? I merely said that it was only a couple of weeks ago due to injuries and what not that Man U were struggling to find a decent centre-back and had to resort to a finished midget right-back.

Ha ha you're kidding right? I'm not sure Arsenal will ever have been more popular with neutrals than they will be over the next 7 days.
. No doubt, but it would look better on United CV if its Barca we are beating in the final.

get in, o'shea good for something. One way traffic so far, which always worries me as its games like this we can only score one at concede a soft goal

Sami Nasri, little fat ****. Few nice touches with the ball but does sweet FA.

How long has Cesc had those awful tats? Looks like a Romanian gypo.

Keeper has kept Arse in the game. Man U should already be in the final.

really don't want another Man utd v Chelsea final, not that last year's wasn't good but I really don't want either side to win. Supported Man utd last year but think I would go with Chelsea this year, have warmed to them but still couldn't stand United winning two years in a row and I like Hiddink

It was nice of Mikel to provide the assist.

Not really sure how Arsenal are still in this tie. They don't deserve to be.

Should have had at least another but as long as our undefeated run continues no matter the score we'll be in the final.

So will United rue the missed chances? The Tevez one in the first half was a glaring miss, sure it was a good save, but when you saw the replay you realised that Tevez made it easy for Almunia to make such a save/

True some of the shots could have been placed better. A couple close offside calls as well.
My teasing of you in my previous post aside, imagine you will go through here. I can't see Arsenal shutting you out nor them scoring three, as such you should be safe, my tip for the second leg is 2-1 Arse

Just back from the pub. Happy to still be in the tie, tbh. Almunia was huge first half, literally saved our arses. 1-0 away is an awful result, but a lot better than 2-0 or 3-0.
