I think we ruin guys like Southee by ****ing around with them. Leave him there, he's got talent, he's shown it... So let's just leave him there.

Do the same with Williamson and we will reap the rewards

Imo the likes of Southee are not ready. What we need is to get them playing for NZ A, which is the system Ryder, Taylor, O'Brien, Broom and co. came through. Its good too, because instead of bowling/batting to journeymen/crap as well as good/decent players in domestic cricket, they're playing against the best from other countries (unless they're batting against England A's "bowling").

I've always been a huge fan of the A program though, a chance to root out the Sinclairs and Ramprakashs by having them at a higher level against generally good players.

Southee has talent, I think he's awesome to watch on song, but he can't bowl very well on non-helpful pitches. Liabilities should not be tolerated for long. He's not better than Martin, O'Brien, Franklin and Mills (Mills ODIs only), so he shouldn't get in unless there's injuries or whatever.

oh GTFO already. Sinclair is gun, and still would be if we wasn't ****ed around by the selectors over and over again.

Rob to confirm

Haha, you know you're talking to the most biased CD fan on the forum (possibly the world) right? I love Skippy, but his inability to listen to helpers, generally talking about footwork (or as McMillan puts it: stack the offside field and watch him try and repeatedly smash it through the offside and wait) is the other half of the reason for his failures. He was ****ed around definitely, but he really didn't help himself with concrete feet and being what Rob calls a "nervous starter."

How many players in the current side have 2 test Double Hundreds? If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

That and he was top 3 batsman this season (can't remember averages, runs etc)

Sadly true.

I'm talking a composite team of the best players this season though, your Sinclairs, Ingrams, Wagners, hopefuly not McIntoshs, etc.
Peter Ingram
Brad Wilson
Jamie How
Mathew Sinclair
Kane Williamson
James Franklin
Gareth Hopkins
Neil Wagner
Darryl Tuffey
Jeetan Patel
Andrew Ellis

Noteables would be Hamish Marshall, Tarun Nethula, Shan Stewart... and a few others i've probably forgot

He had two double hundreds, a fantastic hundred against SA when we were in the **** and....an average under 35. Screwed by selectors yes, but at one point he was given a genuinely good run and failed to deliver.

And now he's much less than he was these days it seems, he just looks almost miserable when he played against England and I recall on radio saying he wasn't focussed on a recall this season, though he'd take an offer if it was given. Can't say I blame him given the rotating door he's had in his test career. But thats how its turned out.

Skippy had the ability, but a combination of selection and his own shortcomings stopped him dead after a while.

Not having Sinclair is odd...Highest Run scorer with 904...

Cumming needs to be middle order, where he's played all season. Myburgh spot on, had a great season both bat and ball, and even in the shorter forms of the game.
Fulton's an odd pick, had an average season, nothing outstanding.

Same with Thompson and Bennett, both okay, but not outstanding seasons

Cumming's been opening for Otago all season in FC cricket. The main competition for Fulton in terms of the number 3 spot were Young and Patton. I preferred Fulton because he was more consistent in terms of run scoring, although that might be slightly harsh on Young.

Thompson I went for in order to have a left armer and an all rounder in the side. Bennett to add a bit of pace and bounce (somewhat surprisingly he was the best and most consistent of our fast bowling "prospects" this season).

Hrmph, just had a look at the scorecards... Cumming is Middle order in OD's... My mistake...

I can't see the facination with all rounders.... It's not all about having one.... Just play the extra batsman/bowler

Much like i've said in other forums, a man for the future is Keir Bettley.

Immensly gun, plays club cricket for the same club as me. Once he cracks into ND, he will be NZ bound in no-time.

Only downside is he is bang on like Kane Williamson - Part time off spin, middle order batsman
