Also, in other news, what with this being the domestic thread and all, Auckland are going to be the state champions.

Patton, he has played seven first-class games. Williamson has played ten. I know he is 11 years older, but he has no future with NZ cricket. Take Williamson, he doesn't have to play.
Q: What does Patton have in common with McClennaghan?

A: They both average over 40 in FC cricket :p

Looking likely to be a great finish this afternoon, with CD sneaking in front for the first time in the match. Auckland need 109 with 6 wickets left.

Well Auckland get home pretty comfortably in the end, thanks to Hopkins and de Grandhomme, winning by 5 wickets.

Casting a look back at the performers this season, here's my judgement on the winners and losers.

Winners
Tarun Nethula: The top wicket taker in this year's competition, at a solid average (34) and an excellent strike rate (57). If he can tighten up his accuracy a little bit (always a huge ask for a legspinner) and keep up the good work next season he might start to compete with Patel for the 2nd spinner role.

Kane Williamson: Averaged over 50 with the bat and grabbed 17 wickets at 37 with the ball. Another season like this and he might start to push into the ODI side next year.

Peter Ingram: People may hate his lack of footwork, but he was the 2nd highest run scorer this season, at the not unhealthy average of 63. With McIntosh crashing and burning, he's probably next in line.

Craig Cumming: Should never have been dropped in the first place, but his form this season will have got him close to being back in contention.

Hon mentions: Lance Shaw, Hamish Bennett, Johann Myburgh

Losers:
Todd Astle: Another frankly awful season from a player who was once considered one of our brightest u19 prospects. His part time legspinners have declined in potency too.

Richard Sherlock: Bowled in the first few matches of the season, rarely going at less than 4 an over before disappearing again.

CJ Merchant: Just because you're Australian, that doesn't mean you're good.

Greg Hay: Who would've thunk that in one of the best seasons for batsmen in recent history, Hay would completely lose the plot?

Should really be competing with Vettori for the 2nd spinner's role.

Nathula isn't that grand tbh. However he's the only leg spinner NZ has, so worth a shot.

Well done to Auckland, even though i'm a staunch CD supporter

Have to add Arnel in their. Another average at best season, and BAM your in the blackcaps.
Also gotta give Kudos to Shann Stewart

Let's wait and see what Nethula does next year. Now that all the batsmen have seen his bag of tricks, the second season will always be a different, and more difficult, challenge for a leggie.

SM*? Hamilton? When do the Leslie-esque demands for Cameron Merchant and Hamish Marshall for the blackcaps start?

Lies....

Hamish Marshall if we are that desperate...

But deffo Kane Williamson. I was reading the Sunday papers, and they talked about turning the number 6 role into a specialist batsman role....

Really like that idea TBH, allows another batsman to shore our lineup, and Jesse Ryder is more than capeable of filling that 4th seemer role, and bringing in Williamson you get more than handy off-spin.

Pinga is definately in, despite his lack of footwork.... I liken his concrete feet to Sinclair, which could spell trouble at higher levels (much like Sinclair)...

Still reckon Jamie How is gun, just a rubbish patch of form...

My Ideal XI -

Ingram/How
Guptill
Flynn/How
Taylor
Ryder
Oram/Williamson
McCullum
Vettori
Patel/Southee
O'Brien
Martin

Don't mind that XI, but after certain screw ups with teeangers in the past like Rutherford I'd prefer the conservative approach to Williamson. We don't want him to end up avering 35 in tests. Would be a waste.
