Rob Key - stick to pie-eating

Strange then how Mahmood was complete garbage on the England Lions tour. Averaged nearly 33 in FC last season - outdone by virtually every seamer at Lancashire.
Wouldn't say Mahmood was complete garbage on the Lions tour, and performed well in the CC last season, but certainly has more to offer. Stats do not always tell the whole story, as someone who always suggests Harmison should be in the England side should know!

Only in Twenty20 could Dimitri Mascarenhas and Robert Key be compared.
Dimi would be my choice for captain. Has been doing a really good job there for Hampshire and has got to be an automatic choice for the T20 side.

Anyway, Rob Key does seem a bit of a prick in the media (not entirely sure what he's done terribly wrong here) but i'm tired of jokes about his weight. Need some new material IMO.

Yes Mahmood is another one who I think has more to offer, always receives a massive slating on here as one of the worst players to represent England, which I don't agree with at all. Hopefully benefited from having a decent season in County cricket last year, and has been bowling rather rapidly apparently over the winter, and in the nets.
Wouldn't make it in to the Lancashire side if i was picking, even if Anderson and Flintoff were on England duty.

His overall tour stats were 9 wickets at 51.22, ER of 4.82 - and we know already that some of those were tailend freebies after Davies had done all the hard work.

Mahmood is crap regardless of everything.

Harmison is predictably good or bad depending on various factors.

You have to love Key, and in his interviews i think he's much improved, I certainly do not see this smugness everyone is ranting about, think he is a really good T20 captain, after all he managed to take an average team very far in the last 2 T20 cups. The best captain out of those in the squad I reckon, and I think the way he's reinvented his game to a force to be reckoned with in the OD game would warrant his selection...

His problem is bowling consistenly good, quick spells. He does at times let himself down and his economy rate suffers as a result. Althoguh he will never be selected with the aim of keeping it tight at one end, the nature of his bowling, and his pace, mean he will at times be expensive.

If Mahmood himself is to be believed, his accuracy should be much better this season, and that combined with his pace will make life very difficult for the County batsmen this year.

Of course his figures with the Lions this winter were not at all flattering, and he must find the consistency to go with the hostile spells of bowling he is capable of.

And selection in the Performance Squad is a decent place for his career to begin again!

Rob Key's weight loss is right up there with Ravi Bopara in terms of 'where-the-hell-did-that-come-from'.

Didnt realize that Key's more recent limited overs record is actually fairly decent. Last 2 full seasons in List A have yielded 679 @ 52 and 594 @ 37. In t20 he has an average of 29 @ SR of 128 with 6 50s. Cant think of too many players knocking on the doors with better records than that. Perhaps a time for one last stint?

Can't have that, different people in the squad for different forms just cause the team might do better. Besides, Key used to be fat and kept down some guy with no future to in order to play another guy with no future.

Strauss ruled himself out of the 20-20 squad, not surprising to hear that of course because that would have been too good to be true if it came from our selectors. I dont know much about key's 20-20 exploits but his record on paper looks good and his captaincy has been much lauded.

Is this Mark Davies bloke really as good as his stats suggest, especially in OD cricket? What sort of sppeds does he get at?

He is good, but he has had an absolutely horrific run with injuries, probably as bad as anyone you can think of.

He's not much more than medium tbh. It's his variations and accuracy that are his strength. His run of injuries is possibly even worse than the bloke in your pic. Not so sure this is what's kept him out of the side though, I think his lack of pace has got him pigeon-holed as a good county pro in the eyes of the selectors.

he's up there with Chris Schofield as being the worst of the last fifteen years though, surely?
