Birmingham Bears Aussie Rules team

As a couple of you know, thanks to the indoctrination of CW i'm in the process of setting up an Aussie Rules team in Birmingham.

We've been entered into the National Walkabout (who else) League for this season, starting 2nd May, to play other teams such as Manchester Mosquitos, Huddersfield Rams, Liverpool Eagles (yet have liverbirds on their jumper..) and Leeds Lions over the summer, culminating in division/national finals.

This is pretty much a call to the many Aussies on CW (and i've tried a couple already) to see if they have any contacts that might result in us being able to acquire some old balls or such like if i pay the postage.

Failing that, any Aussies over for the Ashes are more than welcome to come see us during the season.

Sounds like a pretty cool project.

Good luck with it. Id suggest contacting the Australian High Commission to see if they have any ideas or if their press/cultural section can help you out.

Maybe you can get some Irish fellas in there? I mean it's basically GAA with jumping. Just post signs with large shamrocks promising pots of gold at the end of the rainbow :naughty: and so on.

Just don't allow them to whinge when you beat the **** out of them instead of playing the game...they didn't like that last time it happened

Got one Irish guy playing for us with a history of playing gaelic, the gaelic team that train on the pitch next to us on Tuesdays have already tried to steal him away.

Pretty much everyone else has got rugby experience, bar the 2 Aussies and the guy who spent a year out there playing it.

Will be acquiring members of the rugby team we're associated with as well when their season ends in a couple of weeks.

Grand Final on Sunday

They think they're going to walk it, we're going to win it.

Out of interest Matteh, what are your club colours? Have a few mates in the UK right now and they've played a few games over there and subsequently produced photos of themselves doing so on facebook, would be interesting to see if they play for your club.

Ours are Navy and Gold - is basically a mid 90s West Coast jumper with a different logo on the front.

What colours has he been playing in? Know most of the other UK teams.

Blue and Red, like the Essendon Jersey except Blue where the black is, with Blue shorts.

EDIT: possible, the Red stripe is more orangeish on closer inspection.

Doesn't ring any bells...Leeds play in an Essendon kit though.

Where are they based?

How embarrasing....Just looked at the title of the album; Flying Dutchmen vs Berlin Crocs

Seems the games weren't even in england. Feeling a right goose about now.

Haha, yeah that'd be it.

There's a surprisingly large uptake of it in Europe now, even Andorra have a national team somehow.
