UAE though are a side that can pull off those type of results that have some good players at the top at this level. Just lack depth and and the top players are 50, so they are on their last legs.

I read an idea written in a blog at cricinfo. It said that a player should'nt be allowed to play county games on the day of international matches. Sounds like a good idea to me.

First of all its known that on several occasions the associate player may go back to his county and not get selected for the clashing fixture anyway. The threat is the possibility of losing out on a acounty contract on the basis of of unavailability for team selection because 'he kept buggering off to play for his country'

I would like to see the ECB insist that no player should risk losing a County contract bhecause of national obligations of whatever country he represents

How can they do that? It's a purely business decision. It is for the ICC to compensate counties in this instance.

I was thinking that because the Counties are part funded by the ECB to contest ECB sanctioned tournaments they could try encourage that kind of policy in the Counties. Either that or the ICC should flex some more muscle in finding a balance between getting associate players available for ICC sanctioned events e.g World Cup Qualifiers, Intercontinental Cup etc... without worrying about how it affects their pro careers with Counties. ICC compensation could work though.

The ECB is the Counties. Different to some other nations, the domestic game controls the International game rather than the other way around.

Re the question of compensation. ICC compensation could be the way to go, though Im sure it could be abused.

I agree essex should pay compensation to the dutch side for this intrusion,either that or the ECB.
Don't essex know the rules,you can't pick aa player when he is representing his country,its flouting icc rules.
