Craig McMillan plays in the ICL doesn't he, and he is a commentating during the Test, I bet the BCCI are not too happy!

Hmmm...New Zealand are doing very well at the moment. Excellent knock by Ryder, crafting a double ton when NZ were typically in the poo early on. Fine support from Taylor, McCullum, Vettori and Franklin too. Unfortunately for New Zealand, their pace line-up is still fairly modest (although not exactly crap).

Ishant out, and India will do well to avoid the follow on. Obviously if it does happen, and if your Vettori, what do you do? I would bat again and got for some quick runs and give India 500-600 to chase down on the last day.

Boy, Ishant must be one of the least successful nightwatchmen going around. IIRC he struggled a couple of times v Australia doing that job as well. Seems funny they're persisting with him in that role.

To round this off, the Indian bowlers are flat-top victims. They don't have the firepower to take twenty wickets on a docile track as this. That said, it was an off-day for the fielders yesterday, and the after-effects were felt today. Harbhajan was criticised for not trying enough, and may even be suspect in a first-innings scenario. Yet, he took two wickets, which is more than what was achieved by some other bowlers. Patel was out of sorts, with no wicket, going for plenty. Sehwag and Yuvraj, called on to bowl 24 overs, were less than dire. They were missing Amit Mishra, clearly, with the effect that the New Zealand spinners had. This is something that needs to be thought of for the next Test.

The Indians' apparent weakness on green-tops isn't much of an issue, when there are none. They are, however, under a lot of pressure, when trailing by a massive total, and it has showed, even on flat wickets. Sehwag's dismissal is a matter of bad luck, but the same can't be said of Gambhir, who clearly threw his wicket away. Then there was a bizarre decision to send in a night watchman- and they sent in a sitting duck of a tailender.

The Indians, however, still have a good chance of making a comeback, and putting up at least 500. Dravid and Tendulkar are there in the middle, and both are in good form. We don't expect them to play such rash shots as the openers, so a much bigger partnership is expected. They still have Laxman, Yuvraj and Dinesh Karthik, all of whom can use a track like this to get big scores, and while Ishant was laughably inept here, Bhajji and Zaheer can do a lot better. They need to exploit this track fully, rather than let pressure get the better of them.

an innings defeat on the cards?
Unless India's batsmen go crazy, it's still a draw IMO. Sehwag and Gambhir got out due to extra aggression (not good deliveries), whereas Dravid and Tendulkar didn't seem too troubled by these bowlers on this pitch. NZ need to strike early tomorrow and then India will really be under the gun.

.
Man, how can you say Sehwag's was bad luck?

He played what looked like a premeditated slog-sweep to a slow ball outside off-stump spinning away. It's neither uncommon or unlucky to get a toe-end or under-edge from a wreakless shot like that

Why on Earth do they always send Ishant out.

I don't agree with night watchmen anyway, but if you're going to send one, why not Zaheer? If he's not trying to hit the bowling out of the park, he has a pretty solid technique, and he's shown this on many occasions.

The way Sehwag bats, you don't tell him what to do- best results come when you let him do his own thing. On another day, that may have gone for a second six. He looked like running away with a massive partnership, and it would take a good ball or just good luck to get him out.

I agree. Zaheer is a very good lower order batsman who actually gets in line.
