IPL to be shifted outside India

It will be interesting to see if there is any impact on the commonwealth games in delhi next year, I really hope not. It's a worry for security though, as although obviously there's no election, in terms of number of atheletes it's surely huge in comparison to the IPL.

Education can only show the way to some extent. Much of the problems are written into the DNA in India. And in Pakistan too. Most of the terrorist masterminds, whether hindu or muslim are well educated and well employed ones. Religion is like a drug for those misguided souls.
Don't underestimate the importance of education. I belong to a family where education was never given great importance. Most of my cousins who I grew up with are uneducated small mom-pop shop owners, fortunately I was pretty decent in my studies and so my parents just decided to let me keep going with education. It allowed me to get out of that ghetto and allowed me to think for myself and now if you compare we with my cousins my thoughts and approach to such matters is completely different to theirs.

Education, in the right sense, will definitely get things to improve. However, education, when treated as just a means to earn a living and not as a means to mustering values, is of no use and being educated like that is in fact worse than being an illiterate. Sadly, 80-90% of learning doled out as "education" in the subcontinent belongs to the latter category. In fact, primary level education onwards, the child is put into a system which is no much different from the corporate rat-race. There is one and only one aim in front of him/her, outwit the competitor.

Anyways, I digress here. Coming back to the point, and replying to fourorsix's post above, yes, Commonwealth games is going to be a huge challenge for Delhi. Given the fact that the heart of the administrative setup is there, which demands considerable protection and maintenance, I wonder how they;ll be able to garner enough resources to ensure complete security. Perhaps they will have to draft in some Companies from the armed forces.

IPL to be played outside India

Best news I heard since the Hamilton win

These Micky Mouse matches have disturbed world cricket schedules and distracted and disrupted and will destroy upcoming players and their techniques - hope sanity prevails

Now that the BCCI has been helpful in shifting the IPL out of India keeping elections in mind, thus easing security concerns for some players, let's just hope they try to get something in return. For instance, the same IPL overseas players can turn up when not on national duty for the Ranji/Hazare matches of their catchment teams. That proposal is surely worth putting across.

Do they? Will they not be being used for County games?

This is pretty short notice.
Most county grounds have 8-10 days free in their schedules during April and May. And most of May has "only" one-day games with 3-4 days in between.

I realise you can't play cricket every day on these grounds, but with 18 county grounds and only 11-12 (including 2nd xi games) hosting games in any given CC round, it should be possible. Though the counties may have to be paid with a percentage of the income to make the grounds available.

I cant imagine all 18 of those grounds would be suitable (though out grounds like Scarborough 10 000 + may be).

John Buchanan is claiming this is all part of some kind of brinkmanship between the BCCI/IPL and the Indian government, and the aim is to still have it in India. I hope he's ill-informed about that, security matters should be decided by logic not politics.

I will be heavily disappointed if the government gave into such bullying tactics of BCCI/IPL. IPL isn't more important than the elections and if the IPL promoters can not understand it then they should take their filth whereever they want to.

I personally believe that government and elections etc are just excuses, IPL has been looking to move IPL out to another country since Mumbai and Lahore incident mainly because a lot of international star don't seem too convinced to tour India. For example Mallya who has signed KP as his star player couldn't afford to not have him and also and looking to market his brand outside of India couldn't have asled for a better opportunity.

IMO BCCI/IPL is playing a dangerous game here by making the government culprit here wehreas the fact is that they have not really tried to work it out.

I am amazed there is not a big enveloped marked "Contingency Plan" in big letters.

An operation this size a) should have seen the clash with the elections coming and b) be prepared in the event of security fears.

How there is not a fully fleshed out contingency plan when there is this amount of money involved is amateurish.

I don't agree that they are moving it because of the international players. Even if a number of them opted-out of the event the security would still need to be high, with all the big Indian stars present. And even with some of them opting out, I think it would still be a financial success.

I love the idea of the BCCI staging a tournament overseas, at the grounds of 18 possibly-reluctant county clubs, and on the patch of a local cricket board that's run by cretins who have already had their fingers burned from getting involved with foreign T20 promoters.

Sounds like a brilliant idea. Nothing can go wrong with it, surely?

Xuhaib is on the money in comparing Narendra Modi to Pakistani leaders.

Ironic how he thinks that an annual sports tournament can be a matter of national shame, while being responsible for the most shameful event in 21st century India (no matter how you look at it and where you fall on the Indian political spectrum).

Reports are that Modi and Co have flown to England this morning. With his statement yesterday , that there will be a new schedule by Monday evening , there hardly seems to be any time to meet the South Africans . So it seems that England is first choice , and if it works out , it will be the new venue for IPL2.

I just can't see Sky going for it.
