I dunno, the New Zealand selectors have made some pretty moronic calls in the past 12 months when it comes to the batting order. Though I admit even by their standards this would be astonishingly stupid.

Guptill himself has said he's looking forward to opening the innings with his Auckland teammate, Tim McIntosh. I find it hard to believe they would have picked Guptill in the side to open, told him he was going to open, then at the last minute bat him in the middle order when there is no other specialist opener in the squad.

He will open. I've seen the cricinfo writers write moronic things like this about NZ before.

I hope you're right. I'm not even that keen with Daniel Flynn batting at 3 so early in his career. Having him bat as an opener would move of Bracewellian incompetence.

Apparently he's going to be in the side mainly for his batting...he will bowl a few overs, but he's there as a batting all-rounder.

Interesting stuff.

I think Guptill will defientley open the batting, Flynn has played well at 3 so why make him open.

It's gonna be real fascinating to see how Dravid comes through in this series. Will he be the player who scored century each innings and averages 64 in NZ, or will he be the Dravid of the past couple of years, plagued by doubt and uncertainty?

He does has a lot of potential as a batsman and has 2 FC centuries as well as a test century. I think it's a good move.

I think that most of us know that Tim McIntosh really isnt gonna have a distinguished career, he just isnt good enough but we also understand that you cannot drop a guy after he scores a hundred in his second test, he wont last long...
