This just goes to show how fast bowling is so much better in the modern (as in post packer) era than pre-packer. I mean it's ridiculous that McGrath doesn't even get a look in, yet distinctly inferior bowlers made this poll, just because their careers resided pre-packer.

I mean it's a bit funny that Lillee gets a run ahead of McGrath, given how good McGrath was. It's hillarious that Miller, Lindwall, Trueman and Imran are on this poll ahead of McGrath.

Voted for Lillee and Marshall though. Didn't vote Hadlee out of protest at his inclusion over McGrath's in the modern XI.

miller and imran got in as an allrounders.

truman > mcgrath is debatable but definitely not hilarious

By the criteria for which Gilchrist is preferred over Knott, Imran should have won this poll hands down. He is head and shoulders above the others as a batsman and really one of the all time great fast bowlers which is not the case with Gilchrist.

No arguments there. Gilly wasn't much of a fast bowler at all. :p

I actually did nearly vote Imran as one of my two - it was very close. As it stands I plan to vote for Imran as the 3rd bowler and Miller as my no.6, though I actually expect Imran to win the no.6 poll (assuming Sobers gets picked in the middle-order as seems likely).

It's not the same criteria. Whilst wicket-keepers, especially in modern cricket, are expected to hold a bat...opening bowlers aren't. And batting that deep is almost overkill as it's unlikely to have/be of much use. Picking them as bowlers is probably best as that's more than likely where they'll have more effect.

Although, it could be a logical choice - I can see why someone would vote that way - the criteria is not the same.

lillee isnt likely to overtake hadlee in the remaining 18 hours or so. as the top runner up he will be part of the next poll featuring him and three spinners. hadlee and marshall will take the new ball for this team.
