Not from what I've seen. At worst, they were on par, in my view. Not denigrating De Villiers, per se; he's just so good an athlete, he can do pretty much anything. But to be SA's regular 'keeper? Takes too much from one strong area to paper over another for mine.
How much of Prior have you seen? His keeping is rank bad.

Prior has nothing on AB.
He's handy with the bat. Just scored another ton. AB needs to start scoring more consistently especially as he continually talks himself up as a batsman. He's very ambitious with the bat.

Awesome stuff here from Hughes and Ponting. An obvious statement, but we are such a different side when we have a working opening pairing and Ponting scoring runs - makes almost as much difference as the improvement in Johnson and Siddle emergence in place of the injury-restricted Lee and Clark.

De Villiers isn't great with the gloves, but you seem to think he's the absolute pits. He's miles better than Prior.

They'd really miss him in the field though. He's quite possible the best fielder in the world at the moment.

Ponting on a freakin' mission here. Love Punter batting.

EDIT: He's only 62 runs short of 11,000 as well!

Cue "He's still crap because he only scores against SA and hasn't dominated in India yet."
Yes, they always level that criticism at him.

I suppose this SA attack is pretty average will another thrown out. Apart from Steyn it is a poor attack but you can only slaughter who you're up against.

De Villiers is a much better keeper than Prior.

TBF to Matthew he hasn't really dropped any serious testicles since his recall. De Villiers looked decent enough in the one (or was it two?) test/s I saw him keep in, but that was back in 04/05. Wouldn't like to definitely say he's better, especially as he's probably not been working that hard on it.

He hasn't but his general standard of keeping has been poor during the current test series against the Windies. Byes galore.

What's Juan Theron like? How close is he to International selection?
Played for the A team against Sri Lanka, didn't do much and he also has a terrible action. Been lucky so far not to a have a serious injury.
