***Official*** Australian Domestic Season 2008/09

Kylez

State Vice-Captain
Hey! I wrote this release!

Hi everyone, allow me to introduce myself.... I'm Kirsty, (Top_Cat's gf) I work at the SACA as the Communications Coordinator. Am new to this job and relatively new to cricket. I am slowly gaining greater knowledge of cricket as a result of working here with the Redbacks (and lengthy emails and talks from Corey) and am actually starting to enjoy the game.:-O
I'm sitting in my office at the moment and so can't see the action but I am following the scores on Cricket.com.au....

Good on ya Top_Cat and Kylez for puttin the Redback updates on here!
SA are doing brilliantly with Cleary already taking 3 wickets to see the Tigers in trouble on 4/31 after 15 overs. George has the other wicket.

PKF Tasmanian Tigers 1st Innings
Total 4 wickets , 15.1 overs 34

R M B
Wells, JW lbw:Cleary 8 23 17
Dawson, DG lbw:George 8 38 33
Marsh, DJ b:Cleary 0 8 4
Bailey, GJ not out 12 31 21
Birt, TR b:Cleary 3 13 13
Paine, TD not out 1 8 3

If I can get out to the match day office today to view the game from possibly the best office in Adelaide; expect to recieve better updates, including crowd and player reactions. :D

Nice to meet you all, Go the Redbacks!
Sounds like a mad job.\

Yeah redbacks are doing good. But Tas are 7 for 200 odd now. Shud of bowled them out by now. The catching hasnt been the greatest.

Nice to see Watto in the runs. :)

Funny how all three games went quite similarly today, early collapse and then recovery.

Anyone have any information on the young NSW quick Mitchell Starc? Always exciting to see someone debut so young, obviously must have something about him.

South Australia really let Tasmania off the hook. Full credit to George Bailey for compiling a big century, I can't image batting conditions being too easy when he came to the wicket. Still don't understand what South Australia are doing with Cullen Bailey. They bring him back into the team, give him 8 overs, whilst allowing Dan Harris, Dan Christian and Aaron O'Brien to rack up 36 overs.

He is pretty crap, nothing special at all.
Scope for improvement though? I hear he has abit of pace about him, made all the proper age group representative sides.

Not the best first day of domestic cricket for the youngster, nothing to be embarrassed over though. NSW obviously considered it a good time to check him out at this level.

No one else really to check out until Josh wants to move to the city. There not a great deal of talent coming through in the seam department for NSW at present, both interms of youngsters and muture aged seamers. The only other option was Keen, if they wanted to try someone new. And he just a medium pacer.

Picked mainly on the fact that he bowls pretty quick and he is young. Looks good on paper but hasn't showed anything special ar grade level or NSW 2nds.

Not the worst pick in the world considering there is no one else. But don't expect a lot, unless he improves massively.

Thank you for the description of Starc, great to hear from someone with such a fantastic knowledge of the grade cricket system.

I have heard comments similar to yours about Keen. Decent bowler, lacks pace, nothing too special. Bowling decently for Bankstown this season, 2nd XI form is average. Probably not the sort of cricketer NSW requires right now, bits and pieces style all-rounder.

What about the other rookie listed quick, Josh Lalor? Deserved a game? I know very little about him.

Lalor like Starc has struggled to step up this season after getting a rookie contract. Been pretty average at grade level. With Starc many feel he was a better bowler when he had less pace and had to bowl with his head. Now he has some pace behind, he just tries to bounce guys out. Even though he not that fast. Once he starts bowling with his head again he might be decent.

Keen very much bits and peices at any level above grade level. You could compare him to someone like Dan Christain I guess. But Christain always had a bit of extra pace and could make it at state level as bowler.

As he has done for the second half of the season for South Australia. I don't mind Dan Christian's bowling, but without his pace he would be fodder.

All things considered, these young paceman are about the 10th,11th,12th etc choice bowler for NSW. No other state can boast such a stellar line-up, and it’s no surprise with so many players unavailable that the cupboard may be a little bare.
