Referee now ****ing England over big time, gives England about 2 seconds to get that ball before he gives the scrum against.

Yeah. Taking someone out with your shoulder 15 seconds after they've kicked the ball is definitely not an obstruction.
All he did was continue with his momentum and the guy ran into him, Armitage doesn't have to get out of the way. What's he supposed to do defy the laws of physics and come to an instantaneous halt?

Penalty, certainly. But the mild amateur dramatics afterwards was disappointing. No place for that in rugby.
From O'Driscoll? FWIW he seemed to get hit pretty hard. He's not as soft as he looks. Him and O'Connell have been as good as the rest of our team put together. We'd probably have done better without an out-half.

Looked to make the most of it to me. A foul, yes, but BoD made sure the ref knew it.

He's off now, looks like he could be concussed. You'd think if he was overplaying it he'd have gotten over it by now. You just wish he was English :p

Care: wot a twot. Not only did his petulance ultimately cost us the game, there was absolutely no percentage in the foul anyway.

Gah. Horrible game to watch.

The unbelievable thing is that... THAT is how England made the World Cup final! They played the exact kind of game with plenty of aimless kicking, and their opponents got dragged into this game of aerial ping pong (although O'Gara had yet another shocker for Ireland). I just wish someone would shake up the English side. I think the World Cup was a bad thing in the sense that England seem to think they can win games like that all the time. They need to operate with a greater scope instead of just aimless kicking and committment to the ruck.

Aside from that, England have no leaders on the field, just undisciplined infringers. Brian O'Driscoll didn't produce a vintage performance that he could ala 2001. He didn't pry open defences with a change of pace, a magical step or by running great angles. But what he did do was stand up and do what had to be done. When a try was needed he performed the duty of a backrower and drove himself over the line. When O'Gara had gone to water, he slotted a drop-goal. When the **** hit the fan, he was there to do what was needed to win. Nothing pretty, but what any team should do (which neither team did do).

England could win games like that all the time if they didn't have a bunch of indisciplined nilwits. Indiscipline but to a lesser extent cost them in the World Cup final.

Well done Johnson, all the indisciplined idiots who cost England the last game retain their place.

Way to show them.

Least Haskell's been benched. Care's retention is impossible to justify on rugby or discipline grounds tho. Surely the bloke who covers two positions & who doesn't give away twatty penalities (Ben Foden step foward) is the better bet for the replacements bench?

Pleased to see Shaw back, even if at 36 he's probably not a long-term option. Adds much needed grunt to our tight five.

Just ****ing knew they'd not score anything there. So typical. No doubt they'll now fall apart in the second half at some point.

But basically everyone who doesn't have an hankering for all things ovine will be hoping Italy win this.
