Adrian Barath : A new hope for the Windies?

If we needed proof that Hinds is totally out of depth at Test level, then we should play replays of his pain-staking 15 at Kensington Oval. Swann ran rings around him!
I'm sorry, but Ryan Hinds is not cut out for Test cricket. Is this the batsman some claim is the fourth best batsman in the Caribbean?
8-)
Is this the batsman who should be given a run of two or three series?

Not on this evidence!
:@
Barath is the long-term solution, but until he gets into the side, Hinds is not even a stop-gap. It makes more sense to give Simmons or Dale Richards a run, before Ryan Hinds....
Thought this thread would come up again after Hinds failed... I think if he fails again here and fails in Trinidad he'll be discarded with, don't really know whats wrong with him though, have seen him bat plenty of times before and he has looked more solid than that... can't really think what's wrong with him tbh. Bravo will just be a straight replacement for Hinds in England and the order will be reshuffled accordingly...

And what will happen if Bravo and Barath fail? They're all making loads of runs at the same level.

I'm not saying Hinds should be discarded with due to talent or not being able to play for the Windies just saying that he looks out of it... you - like I - must've seen him a number of times and he isn't looking him self, looks out of it tbh, seen him perform much better at the international stage, needs to have the Trinidad test and then don't think he'd be able to get in to the team after that... if you find a way in which he can reach the team for England with a fully fit Bravo then be my guest... Only thing I can think of is that Benn gots dropped and Hinds comes in for him but I think that's risky

Personally, I don't think Hinds should play in Trinidad. Including him in the batting line-up at four is like going into a Test match a batsman short....
The point is, we've played him in 13 Tests, and his average is on its way to a flat 20 or below. He's 28 years old, and is as completely at sea against spin as Morton was....

Give a shot to a guy who hasn't played any Tests. Hinds is not up to it.

Simmons, maybe...

If you were to drop Hinds, Simmons is the next man in I would imagine, annoyed he didn't get a chance to play for Trinidad though, could've done with that... I'm sure selectors will agree with you because it's Simmons home town and because everything you've mentioned above, I just think you need to truly establish whether he should be in the side or not which means more than 4 innings I'm afraid but wouldn't imagine he'd make runs in Trinidad either...

Simmons played for T&T made 44. In any case I don't think Barath and Bravo should be in the team yet. No problem with Barath being carried on tour to England as a reward but another season of doing well at FC for him and Bravo and then I'd have no problems. Bravo definitely needs another season. Would be more inclined to push in Barath re: my willingness for him to be taken to England and play some of the warmups.

Actually, Simmons is playing for Trinidad now, and he made 44 in the first innings against Barbados, I believe. I think I can safely predict that Simmons won't do any worse than Hinds in the final Test.
:)
THe thing is, we've seen Hinds for 13 Tests, and we now know he's no good. Simmons hasn't played a Test yet. I think Queens Park Oval would be a good place to start....

I think he is a wonderful player for West Indies for the future. The best thing about him is his positivity.

Don't know what you are implying by that, Sir Alex obviously just searched the forum for a thread about Barath, has nothing to do with the maker of the thread,

Can one of our West Indian posters tell me a bit about Kieron Pollard? How does he compare to Barath in terms of talent and potential?

Pollard has less batting potential than Barath. He's a better OD player though. Saying that, he's got a decent FC record so could easily find himself in line for a Test cap.

Didn't see him in the second innings, but saw a bit of him in the first innings and thought he looked really good, very compact.

I've just realised that Pollard's an all-rounder, and not particularly good on the batting side of things. For some reason I thought he was a gun young batsman.

His FC average of 37 is encouraging though.

Were you thinking of Kieran Powell, he's another young batsmen from the West Indies?

Nah it was Pollard. I remember him being touted as one of the outstanding prospects at an U/19s World Cup. He must have made some decent scores for me to think he was a batsman.

This Powell looks alright though, doesn't he? FC average of 40 at the age of 19 is plenty to be excited about.

Yeah from what I've seen of him he looks very promising, he looks very much like Chris Gayle when he's at the crease though, it's actually pretty freaky the similarities between the two.
