Vernon can breathe a sigh of relief. Not the first time he's had a brain lapse.
Likes Kingsmead does Pro. I recall him dropping Rohit Sharma off the bowling of Morne Morkel in the 20/20 WC. Sharma then took India out of the mire and South Africa went belly-up under the Durban lights.

Warriors gone. Eagles into the final. Robbie P tried to bat right-handed, his not much when he bats cack-handed.
Did you see me on TV? Managed to get on four times, was wearing sunglasses even though it was dark, was sat on the grass bank in an SA jersey

Langeveldt, I don't know what you look like but I only watched the power-over. I was watching the Dolphins Cobras game and England Windies.

Seemed like a great crowd at P.E. though. Disappointed they didn't win and get the subsequent home final.

PE has the most under rated crowd in the world.. Even with only a few thousand in and the band going it beats any other sporting event going

Yeah those are two reasons.

The creation of the franchise system meant that whilst it included every geographical region in the country, some of the most economically viable regions in South Africa had to accept that they could only have one professional franchise. The retention of First Class and List A status was proposed to keep the affiliates of then the UCBSA (such as Gauteng, Easterns, Western Province) onside and for the affiliates and associates to agree to the franchise system. Additionally, the franchises have no second XI cricket, so the CSA affiliates, the provincial sides are the feeders who provide the cricketers to the franchises.
Just to check I've got the right end of the stick with this...are the provincial sides the same sides that would have contested the Currie Cup back in the day, and with the advent of Franchise Cricket, would representing say KwaZulu-Natal in provincial cricket be the same as playing for Western Suburbs in Sydney First Grade Cricket, whereas 10 years ago the equivelant would be playing for New South Wales?

Yep.. it's like state cricket is the second division, and we have a top six bunch of franchises now instead

Was at the final tonight, despite tickets being sold out by 2pm on Thursday. Mate of mine's dad is on some committee and we sat in a box on the North Stand. Was amazing. Probably one of the best live games I've ever gone to (not the actual cricket, that wasn't so great). Sat within a 5-seat radius of Andries Bekker, Duanne Vermeulen, Paul Delport, the Cheetahs reserve flanker (forget his name), Alan Dawson and Omar Henry. Free drinks, too! :)
Envy me.

SuperSport is back.

First day scorecards...

Eagles 256 (Rossouw 111:cool:, Kleinveldt 7/43:() Cobras 17/0

Titans 95/3 (Bodi 46*, Smit 1/1)

Warriors 219 (A Jacobs 64*, Smuts 49, de Wet 4/30, Alexander 4/80) Lions 61/1 (Symes 28)

A lot of guys are suspended at the moment, so no du Preez, de Villiers, Thandi for the Eagles, Rowley, HD are out for the Dolphins, Nel is banned for the Lions, as is Robbie P for the Warriors.

Good return from de Wet and now with Lonwabo being out injured, guys like de Wet have a great chance of getting back into the national fold especially with Cackdeki and Nel unavailable for selection.

All for dissent, I believe. HD and Vernon Philander are both banned after getting into an altercation a few months back. Nel, I believe for abusing an umpire, Robbie P and his Warriors coach for abusive language directed at the crowd and officials whilst Rowley has been done for something similar. The Eagles boys got done after they lost the Pro20 final.

WTF Kleinveldt!

Pity CJD got suspended too. I bet he would have been next in line for selection. Although De Wet has always hovered around for possible national team selection.

Pretty worrying situation given how Ntini and Morkel have rocked up. The alternatives are extremely raw or even in the case of de Wet completely untested and his just back from a serious back injury.

Final scorecards...

Eagles 256 (Rossouw 111, Kleinveldt 7/43), Cobras 285 (Gray 110, Puttick 72, Charl Pietersen 4/62, Pienaar 2/50), Eagles 355/7d (Hendricks 151*, Bailey 75, Pienaar 60, van Zyl 3/27, Rabie 3/57), Cobras 246 (van Zyl 85, Kleinveldt 55, Pietersen 4/36) - Eagles won by 80 runs

Titans 276 (Bodi 64, Smit 3/45, Louw 3/48), Dolphins 228 (A Amla 88, Miller 62, Tahir 5/65), Titans 272/6 (Snijman 114, Malan 66, Govender 3/50, Abdulla 3/54), Dolphins 100 (Delport 40, Albie Morkel 5/25, Tahir 3/36) - Titans won by 220 runs

Warriors 219 (A Jacobs 64, de Wet 4/30, Alexander 4/80), Lions 349 (Virus 80, VB van Jaarsveld 110, Meyer 3/42, Kreusch 2/14), Warriors 296 (Prince 77, A Jacobs 76, Frylink 4/48, de Wet 2/49), Lions 148/6 (Symes 65, Botha 3/26) - Match drawn

I believe it was a franchise debut for former 'failed' Kolpak cricketer, Charl Pietersen and he did well. As did current SA U19 all-rounder, Obus Pienaar who got his maiden first class half century and chipped in with a few wickets and 19 year old, Reeza Hendricks from the unfamiliar position of opener got his maiden ton. Bit strange for the Cobras that Herschelle Gibbs was batting at 5 below Ontong. He didn’t trouble the scorers much but he should be opening or at least coming in top 4.

Fantastic win for the Eagles nevertheless considering they had no du Preez, McLaren and de Villiers.

Walk in the park for the Titans. Good to see Albie in the wickets for a change and 8 wickets in the game for Tahir is encouraging for his been off the boil this season. Nice to see young Pieter Malan given a go as well, his filling the rather big shoes of Martin van Jaarsveld but this kid is a real talent.

Not great stuff from the Lions, they had over 32 overs to win but never seemed like they were ever going to do it. van Jaarsveld, they biggest hitter didn't come in until 5 and it isn't like the Warriors attack is that good. No surprises to see Ashwell Prince play a rearguard special for the Warriors, he didn’t make the match saving century he craved but he took time out of the game.

Jacques Rudolph is back with the Titans. Last seen in South Africa playing for the Eagles, Rudolph is coming back home to fill the void left by Martin van Jaarsveld, who is out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

Titans CEO Elise Lombard - "Cricket South Africa (CSA) approved the deal on Friday and we're happy to have one of our son's back in the fold".

The Titans are currently leading SuperSport and Rudolph's arrivial will only strengthen their four day domestic domanice.
